Also going to be there in July. Have kids 7 and 12. I assume just finding a cabin on vrbo is the best option for a place to stay?

We stayed at the Bearskin Lodge in Gatlinburg last summer, and we really liked it. There are plenty of good food options in Gatlinburg, no matter what you are wanting. Bearskin is really close to the park entrance.
I'd spend as much time in the park, and skip all the tourist shite. The park is really nice, and it is impossible to see it in a week.
I'd also plan on spending some time on the NC side. There is a train in Bryson City that is cool, and some white water rafting on the Nantahala. If you stay on the NC side, here is where I would find a cabin. There are many to choose from around Bryson City.

Navitat in Bernardsville, North Carolina. Best zip lining around.

Thanks for all the responses! Forgot to mention we will have a 5 year old with us so some of the options aren’t doable probably but will give It all a shot

I used American Patriot Getaways to book our cabin. It’s a huge cabin and I want to say was $1700 for the 5 nights and 6 Days. Split between 2 couples and it’s not bad imo

Definitely rafting. Dixie Stampede is good, so is the Lumberjack Feud. Hit up all the free tastings downtown and get buzzed for free. Ole Smokey moonshine, the winery’s, and a whiskey distillery all downtown. There’s a hole in the wall restaurant I can’t remember the name of, the family is from Kenner, La. Damn good roast beef poboy. Goat coasters are awesome also.

If you enjoy hiking in the mountains, or even if you've never done it and just want to give it a shot, you may be surprised about how much a typical 5 year old is capable of keeping up with. There's plenty of nice 3-5 mile total waterfall hikes in the Park that are perfect for getting away from the stupid throngs and that kids will love. Spend a couple of days doing two or three of those.

Yea we took her to tunica hills and walked the creek and I was shocked that I didn’t have to hold her once. Are all the hiking trails in cades cove?

I agree. We told our 3 y/o on the hike to Grotto Falls and she did it like a champ!
Kids love that stuff!

So vacation is in a month and we are talking about leaving 2 days before checkin and was curious about some cool places to stop and see on a mini road trip there with the kids. Any suggestions?

The traditional stop for us was always Chattanooga to see Ruby Falls and Rock City. Sure, they're touristy and kitchy....but we enjoy them.

Was just looking at stuff to do there and it seems more up our ally. Little one would love rock city and rub falls

No, the best trails are not in cades cove. Go to the visitors center or do some research online to get a map of the trails. Cades Cove is just a tiny portion of the park, it's gotten popular because fat lazy people can just drive around it. Some of the history there about who lived there is neat though.

Not in or real close to Gatlinburg. Ocoee is best, Nantahala is more beginner and more fun to funyak.
Isn't Pigeon pretty close? I haven't been to gatlinburg in decades but I recall rafting there and them having 3s and maybe a couple 4s.

The first Appalachian trail hike my son and I did was from Clingmans dome to Newfound Gap. He was eight years old.
The hardest part of this trek was from the parking lot to the summit.
This kid, besides earning his Eagle badge later, showed me his adaptability, his ability to succeed.
