So vacation is in a month and we are talking about leaving 2 days before checkin and was curious about some cool places to stop and see on a mini road trip there with the kids. Any suggestions?

Our cabin check-in is Sunday, July 1st. We are leaving NOLA at 5 am on Saturday, June 30th, and going to Chattanooga. Hoping to be there by 2 pm Eastern Time (time changes about an hour out). Have a Comfort Inn and Suites booked near Lookout Mountain. Plan is to pull into town and head straight to Ruby Falls, do that and Lookout Mountain, then head to hotel to drop off stuff and change, and then go find something to do / dinner on Sat night.

Our kids are 10 and 7.

1) Any decent places to stop and have lunch between say Birmingham and Chattanooga? Like good local places?

2) Any ideas on dinner and evening family activities in Chattanooga? I've read about a lot of breweries and stuff but that's not happening on this trip.

I would spend an evening at The Island in Pigeon Forge. It is a shopping/restaurant/bar area that also has a few rides and plenty of things for people of all ages. I would also try to rent a cabin. That is always fun.

Stand on the sidewalk and watch the taffy machine go round and round.

Ride a chair lift to Anakeesta. There is a badass zip line and suspended bridges. Great view up there.

Same with Ober Gatlinburg.

The bears like to come out either early am or pm. More likely to see one in Cade’s Cove then.

I’m in Gatlinburg as I’m typing this right now .

Tuscaloosa is downright dreadful getting through right now.

Can't think of any unique lunch stops between Bham and Chatt. Gadsden is the biggest city you'll pass through, but there's nothing there all that special I can think of. Harp & Clover maybe, but I don't think it's really worth the drive off 59 (about 4-5 miles).
