What would you do in this situation?

So, today I was doing squats by myself in a squat rack. Got through my second set when someone else walks up. Here's what followed.
First, he asked to workout in between my sets. I said no, and that I would prefer to finish my last few sets then he could take over. He told me I should just let him workout in between sets again. This is where I got annoyed.
At this point he's just standing next to the rack watching me intently like he wanted to say shite. I got through with my next set, and told him I'd be right back. Went to the front desk and told an employee about what was happening, and to come follow me to confront the guy. The employee agreed, and followed to mediate.
The guy who was bothering me got defensive immediately. Started raising his voice at me and the employee, an even started beating his chest repeating, "This is me!". I couldn't get word in either way cause he was acting so childish and unreasonable.
The employee tried to reason with us, and even heard both sides, but just ended up saying that I and the other guy need to work this out amongst ourselves. But, as I mentioned before, this dude was not rational. He decided he should be able to do whatever he wants. To be clear, the other two squat racks were taken, but the assisted racks were all available.
I've since looked up the LA Fitness Conduct Code and think I have a legit complaint for both the rude guy and the way the employee decided to resolve the issue. What do y'all say?

You went to the front desk to whine to an employee?

Do you need a safe place to workout?

Just ignore the guy, finish your sets, and leave.

***Update***

Ended up speaking to the same employee from before, who's actually one of the head managers of the gym, while on my way out. Basically, he told me they've had multiple issues with that guest before, and in fact, he might be a little crazy because he's acted out like that when previously confronted. Told me they'd have a talk with him when he leaves as well since they don't want the other guests to be bothered by that type of behavior in the future. I guess my complaint has been resolved, but holy frick you never know how many people there are walking around out there completely bat shite crazy and delusional.

Should have let him work in. How long are your rests?

There's room for both unless he's lifting significantly different weights.

Why wouldn't you let him work in? It can't be that big of a difference in weight. If it was deadlift, I'd tell them no though as it's harder to load.

Personally, I think you handled the situation like a bitch but this country is so pussified it doesn’t surprise me you went to someone else and looked up a conduct code (lol). Either let the dude work in with you or finish your set and come back to it when he’s done and this would’ve all been avoided.

Has never happened to me, but I feel like I definitely would have handled it differently.

Why not ask him what exercise he was wanting to do?

If he was squatting as well, maybe you two could give pointers to each other

After he made it super awkward and confrontational by standing close to intimidate me, I would have caved in let him work in. But as soon as he got to the bottom of his first squat, I'd have punted him right in the nuts from behind.

Not really, but it's what I'd want to do.

Tough situation, but I'd probably have done the same.

This just happened to me:

I do rack-pulls in the smith machine my apt has, we have no other bars so deadlifts aren't all that viable. I figured I could go in this morning and not be bothered by no one being there at 9:20am. Nope - ole baw rolls in and critiques me stating, I shite you not, "your doing deadlifts wrong there bro." This was during my 2nd set of 5 total. I explained what I was doing briefly, but not in detail as to why deadlifts don't work in a smith machine. Ended up leaving because I absolutely hate people .

in other words...Why can't people just mind there own business in a gym?

I’d tell him to wait his turn too...my rest periods in between sets is very short so I’m not going to have some dude try to frick up my routine because he can’t wait a handful of minutes
