They were to cheap to hire Aranda. Money was an issue and LSU dominated.

I think a&m's problem right now is they have spent about 500 million on new stadium (much of it raised via boosters), 10 million lump sum buyout to sumlin, other buyouts to other asst coaches and a 75 million commitment to fisher. they have a lot of boosters and, contrary to popular belief on here, they are not all oil barons with unlimited funds. the hat has been passed around a LOT lately. it is likely that they have a budget for asst coaches and have about 5 more to hire.

We offered right at $2 million per year. LSU has to go 25% higher to get their guy and we weren’t willing to do that much for an assistant, even if it was the one Jimbo really really wanted. We could have afforded to go higher yes, but that doesn’t make it a good idea.

Do y’all remember a year or two back that the big stinking point for jimbo was aranda. He wand his own guy and now jimbo is after aranda.
