Saw Last Jedi for 2nd time with parents. One a passionate fan the other casual

Here were there and my reactions. Pretty surprising
1. Mom, the casual/passive fan. "That was the my favorite one outside the first ones. It was slow at times but really good". Casual fans loved the movie.
2. Dad, the more into Star Wars fan. "Pretty good. After 8 movies it's tough to get way from complacency. Thought this one had some really slow scenes but overall was different and think it can setup for a great future."
I thought it was much better the 2nd time around. I knew when the terrible scenes and great scenes were coming up. Helps being prepared.. They should have scrapped the casino planet plot, toughened Luke up, had Ackbar take Hodas place, and allowed Finn to sacrifice himself. These change could have made it spectacular.
The throne room scene will go down as one of the greatest star war scenes

After watching the throne room scene I thought it was overhyped, nothing particularly cool or compelling about the action scene, too much slow motion, and then it's ruined when the one chance for them to do something different that could actually WORK, Rey teaming up with Ren to tear down all of the dogmatic bullshite and ties to the past, is thrown away. Rey is still a perfect Mary Sue and Ren is just the next generic villain.
Movie is trash, I don't understand how people can willingly subject themselves to seeing it more than once.

I don't think so because the emotional development sucked, and Snoke was a cheap villain. I was not very invested in that scene and didn't really care that much when Snoke died, and Kylo Ren was bizarre emotionally.

Kylo is the best character in both movies, but this was the movie for him to really conquer his emotions and conflict, show true focus and mastery of the dark side, and become a legit threat. He's still too emotional and I wish he had taken out Snoke in a more straight up manner, really showing off the power of his Skywalker lineage.

He did show it off imo. He had his thoughts completely in check and managed to trick snoke. No way anyone, including Luke, could kill snoke one on one. His power was ridiculous.
My dad was laughing when Kylo force choked and threw Hux up against the wall. Reminded him of Vader

I wouldn't say there's no way Luke couldn't have taken Snoke out as we never really get to see how powerful Luke was, although with these writers I'm sure he would have been weaker than he should have been. But it does say something that Snoke, himself, viewed Luke as a threat.
It was nice seeing Ren force choke Hux, but even that stuff was a little too slapstick. And Hux is another character who could have progressed into a methodical, tactically proficient threat like Tarkin, you could have then had a serious 1,2 combo with he and Ren, but instead they turn Hux into an even bigger caricature used for comedy relief. The writers of this movie just plain sucked and the development of the villains is just one example of their overt agendas combined with complete incompetence.

I thought the throne room fight was unmemorable except for Snoke’s death.
I actually enjoyed the movie a lot. There are glaring problems and Luke was a mess, but I still had a nice time watching it.
I rewatched TFA yesterday and Kylo Ren enters as a real badass. He looked cool, he stopped the laser in midair, he had a cool sword with the laser hilt...I don’t know why he’s gotten so soft now.
