The japanese flew commercial planes into buildings??? We know that some pilots have kamikazed their planes in star wars, but not using light speed. That's why I specifically used the commercial planes kamikaze example.
Who cares if it’s a specific as it being if they are commercial or not? People realized that they could destroy a building by highjacking a plane, and 9/11 happened.

They mention having to search other channels for the escape pods so I don't know, they seemed to only be firing blindly.
They use lasers to inflict damage, so why not use lasers for targeting? It should be impossible to miss your target.
But since these dangerous lasers do miss, does this dangerous beam of energy just travel throughout the universe until it strikes a solid object? Shouldn’t that insufferable Asian chick have a problem with the risk of errant lasers hitting animals on random planets?

9/11 wasn't even the first attempt to do so. There was a hijacking in 1994 with the aim of crashing an airliner into the Eiffel Tower. But they had to land first to get fuel and special forces stormed the plane.

If Yoda can return, why the hell isn't Anakin appearing to Kylo to knock some sense into him? I can't believe all of the positive reviews after the premiere. The majority that I've seen today have all been negative.
By no means am I a Star Wars disciple, but I've seen every one of the movies. I also thought the Yoda scene and the Leia surviving a space walk scene were ridiculous. Yoda's return established that no one is really dead forever. If it's convenient to bring back any character, it will be done. And, how, praytell, would anyone not named Superman live through being blasted out of a window into space? Was the audience supposed to display a collective sigh of relief that she was still alive? My response was, "You've got to be kidding."
I realize I am pilling on, here, but are Empire vessels incapable of taking evasive maneuvers? We see a single surviving "bomber" float over the dreadnought, and everybody inside the dreadnought knows what's coming, but they stay still. Same for the huge Empire vessel carrying Finn, et al. The commanding officers practically acknowledge that it's not a good idea that the rebel ship was turning around toward them. Do they move? Of course, not. (Finn's [or anyone else aboard] realistic odds of surviving that impact rival Leia's spacewalk.) One wonders how the Empire became the Empire with such goofy decisions being made or not made.

To be fair, being in the vacuum of space for a short time is not as lethal as movies would have you believe. 2001 was the movie that got it right.

Forget the star wars aspect, the movie is a pile of shite.
It abandons almost every core aspect of good story telling.
As a stand alone:
It has no recognizable plot, the "protagonist" undergoes no change or struggle or conflict and is absent the last third of the movie, the "final conflict" moment of the film is fake, none of the characters experience any meaningful growth, there is no real antagonist, there is no threat of conflict and resolution that binds the plot, half the movie is a subplot with no relation to the rest of the movie, characters are routinely introduced and then killed with no meaning or purpose, almost every action climax is immediately changed or fails to climax which is tiring to the viewer, etc..
As a second movie in a trilogy:
It in no way advances the plot of the trilogy, it actively destroys parts of the first movie, and it leaves no where to go. There's no one to even care about anymore.
It's just a horribly made movie that was written and directed by a guy who has only made 3 other Hollywood movies.
Disney Studios made a trilogy out of one of the most profitable and recognized IPs in the world and they gave the second movie to an unproven and unpolished hack with complete autonomy. It's a mind blowingly stupid decision by the studio.
Yes. The special effects in space were cool, but the story and script made Michael Bay seem like Homer, Chaucer, Shakespeare, Apollonius, Twain, and Orwell all rolled into one.

I disagree here: it’s Poe. His actions lead to the deaths of like 99% of both the Resistance and the First Order.

Why are they fighting the empire anyway? Taxes?

I enjoyed the movie. My main issue with Star Wars has always been that it's too PG and geared towards kids. I understand that's how these movies make their money but the humor was really forced and unfunny in this one. It was an issue for me with TFA as well. Rogue One was my favorite of the newer films by far. I felt it was the most adult of the three.
TLJ despite being cheesy delivered for me overall. Biggest surprise to me was how much Finn didn't bother me in this one compared to TFA. I really don't have any major issues with the film specifically.

You summed up the entirety of my issues with this film. I don’t care at all about the SJW aspects of the film. It is just a mind-bogglingly terrible movie.

Literally nothing happened in this movie

I felt like it was a reboot of the Star Trek franchise. The whole Yoda scene was awful as well.
Terrible movie! Going find the guy at the casino was terrible as well.
So many plot holes and killing off Snoke, Phasma and Holdo before even really knowing them.
No stromtrooper prescence.

Found this gem of an article written earlier last year. Sounds like the writing was on the wall, it was just ignored.
And aren't these other films all he has done before TLJ?

Among the many new locales Rian Johnson has introduced in The Last Jedi, the most eye-catching is undoubtedly the casino city of Canto Bight.
quote:
"I wanted a new environment that was like dunking your head in a cool bath of water, right in the middle of movie,” explains Johnson.
quote:
Also in the issue, Johnson describes the complete freedom he had to take The Last Jedi in whatever direction he chose, without having to follow a roadmap laid out by either J.J. Abrams or Lucasfilm.
quote:
"The perception of these films is that they’re all planned out on a secret sheet of paper in advance, but that’s just not the case," he says. "I wasn’t given an outline of where it goes or even a list of things to hit. It really was just, ‘Okay, what’s next?’”
quote:
Even though it’s Star Wars, the whole thing has felt bizarrely similar to my experience making Looper or Brick or The Brothers Bloom.”

The wife and I went out and The Last Jedi over the weekend. I was not impressed nor did I really like it. I found it to be boring and just a mashed up rehash of The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi. The Last Jedi is not as compelling of a story or is it in any way as good a film as The Empire Strikes Back was though.
The story in The Last Jedi is weak and slow not very well derived. The new characters and actors that the new films have introduced to us are not very good and or compelling enough to hold ones attention. I just am not as invested in the new characters as I was with the old characters in the original films. The new films are devoid of a strong villain like Vader to make us root for these new characters and be concerned for their plight in the fight against the empire.

I mean that has to be one of the all time stupidest studio decisions ever made right?
Take one of the most beloved and will known IPs in the world, buy it, and then start a trilogy with no planning at all and hand the second movie to some unproven and unpolished director and also give him full autonomy to write it with no oversight or theme or care for the first movie or third movie
Can someone explain that decision to me?
Posted on 1/3/18 at 11:32 am to Breesus
Oh and then give him the keys to a whole other Star Wars trilogy to make!!1

sjw concerns aside, this has all the halmarks of owning a property that is too big to manage. too many people involved..too many hands in the kitchen..this isn't the first time we've seen a trainwreck emerge because of too many focus groups, studio heads, bean-counters, 'creatives' and who knows what else all trying to put something together that ends up being a confusing pile of steaming crap.
TLJ was just awful. those of you who are defending it...would you put the original SW trilogy (any of the 3) up against anything that has been released since..for you kids??
i don't want my kids to grow up watching anything but those original movies which were all magical, filled with HOPE and while EP5 ended on a cliffhanger..they were all ultimately a positive and uplifting set of movies.
all other sw movies released since have been nothing but dark, confusing and bare no resemblance to the original universe. there's nothing "magical" about any of those movies and your kids won't leave the theater pumping their fists and wanting to go out & pretend they are Ren or Laura frickING Dern.
the magic of the 80s is gone.

actually I think I will start with Rogue 1 before New Hope.
Rogue 1 becomes the ice cream in the Sundae as it lines up perfectly.
Forget the prequels and TLJ will get a skip as well. I might not even show them TFA unless IX is worth a shite, and then still would debate showing TLJ at all. May have to look to cut scenes out....30 min movie..."No, they blew up the bridge, Leia's dead!...(delete)......wait..How is she alive, in a coma on that bed?"
