Are you incredulous about Dr. Doom?

What’s curious is what will happen with X-Men and Deadpool.
I highly doubt we’ll get to see R-rated movies like Deadpool or Logan. Any reboot of Deadpool will be some more family friendly kind of thing which doesn’t work for Deadpool at all.

Be careful what you ask for.

They'll probaby just get rid of Deadpool. They won't need him.

Not saying that at all. These companies are completely free to do their deals. But that doesn't mean consumers should be happy about them. Marvel fans aren't thinking about the many ways this deal will affect them. Instead of the latest Star Wars and Marvel Movies streaming on NetFlix after the DVD sales window, they'll now have to buy a separate service to see them. I don't know if FX's Legion has any streaming deals set up yet, but if it doesn't you better believe the back seasons of it and The Gifted will be behind Disney's paywall as well.
Agreed but if consumers aren't happy wouldn't they NOT purchase Disney's/ABC's service?

NetFlix's response to Disney pulling out was pretty much "OK then, frick You Too." They hired away ABC's top hit maker in Shonda Rhimes and bought a Scottish comic book company owned by the author that is credited with story lines for several of the Marvel movies.
Thought this happened months ago..? If so, it was a decent answer, but certainly not something long term. A huge benefit of Netlfix is backcatalog, which is what this deal kills.

There are conflicting reports, so I'd be curious to see what Disney actually gets. Some reports say "selected FOX channels" while other reports say "everything but news and sports".
Disney owning the FOX broadcast channel would suck immensely.

looks like fox regional sports networks are part of the deal but not fs1.

Naw, I'm pretty sure Disney would let it cash cow as an as is property. It's not like they haven't had other studios under their umbrella release R rated or actually touch Marvel Comics proper themselves.

I know I don't plan to. I'm just going to have to keep up with stuff on my DVR better since I won't have NetFlix as a fallback.

It did. These megadeals don't happen over night, they take months and sometimes years of flirting first. When Disney first opted out of their deal with NetFlix I thought it was a stupid decision and NetFlix could actually monetize their shows better than they could. I didn't see why a significant number of people would pay a monthly fee for the odd combination of Star Wars Movies and ABC reruns. But adding the Fox content to the mix does give them a critical mass and this surely was their plan when they opted out of the NetFlix deal.

They're not doing Rated R movies, stop trying to prove otherwise. Iger has stated several times they have no plans to ever make an R rated comic book film.

DC fricked!
One real danger is that Disney would own the Batman 1966 TV series and film.
For 45 years, the Batman series was owned by Fox and Bill Dozier's Greenway Productions, with the characters owned by DC. Then Dozier died and his portion was split between multiple heirs and the heirs of his attorneys. That's why we never had the show on VHS or DVD. Too many owners, no way they would come to an agreement.
In the early 2010's, an entrepreneur tracked down the Greenway heirs and bought up their portions, then used some specific launguage from the original agreement to force Fox to buy or sell so that someone would own the entire rights. Fox bought the show, then allowed Warner merchandising rights for the characters.
So if Disney buys Fox Studios, they own the Batman '66 series and film. They'd need DC's permission to use the characters outside of the actual show, and DC would need Disney's permission to use the likenesses of Adam West, Caesar Romero, etc.
Trivia: The only person to own an authorized VHS set of the Batman series was Mark Hamill. He used his Star Wars clout to get Fox to make VHS dubs for him.

I haven't watched Return of the Caped Crusaders or Batman vs Two Face, weren't those WB only jaunts without Fox?
I thought Fox only had TV rights to Batman in general which was part of why JL/U never used his rogues.

Yet the potential app Disney is making, which they said was in the works even before this merger, would be amazing. They'd have the Marvel films, the Disney library, Touchstone, 20th Century Fox film, Fox Searchlight, Miramax, Fox and ABC networks, FS regional sports, NHL/MLB streaming, and probably a bunch of other stuff I'm forgetting.
This is potentially the best TV/movie back catalog app ever made.

Done through their agreement with Fox. Before they had that agreement, Mike Allred did a DC cover featuring the Adam West Batman, and DC pulled it and had him replace it with a different character. Now DC is doing multiple titles using the Adam West characters.
