USA TODAY: "CFB playoff committee got it wrong"

But the choice of Alabama was the wrong one, both in terms of precedent and message for a committee that pretty clearly went outside of the protocol that was built into this system four years ago.

All the reverence for protocol and winning conference titles ended Sunday when the committee gave a big, wet, sloppy kiss to Nick Saban and the reputation of his program, not the team he put on the field this year.

In essence, Alabama slid into the playoff this weekend by doing nothing. It was rewarded for losing to Auburn last week in a game that decided the SEC West title. And that’s simply not the way this process should work.

It's amazing the amnesia people have. Last year, the committee made it pretty clear that you don't have to win your conference to get into the playoff.

The fact that human beings think they can be objective is absurd. They can't unsee the last 10 years of Alabama football and if they are saying it doesn't influence their decision, they are flat-out lying to you.
The same applies to Ohio State.
The same applies to Ohio State.

Going 11-1 in the SEC West means something. Sorry.
Alabama didn't go 11-1 in the SEC West.
SEC East was garbage and they played Tennessee and Vandy...total dogshite teams...and they played Mercer and Colorado State and Fresno State.

We had to have a playoff. Who did people think the playoff would benefit?

New Year's Six. That's all.

They're right. UCF should have gotten in over Bama.

Has this writer updated his article yet? I don't plan to click it.

They didn't go 2-deep into that conference that year. A conference that had its worst overall performance in a decade.

The BCS absolutely HAD to go. Computers are biased! This is what we deserve.

BS. This ended last year when OSU got in over conference champ Penn State.

I found all the people who didn't read the article....

This guy gets it. The committee does not look at conference standings.

The Committee's protocol states that they will heavily weigh Conference Titles - but they've never followed it.
Who knows what these fricks are doing behind closed doors getting paid by the Networks.
If High School football can be corrupt and college football has a history of being corrupt...you damn know well for sure that this Star Chamber is most likely corrupt.
Ohio State got outbid. So it's their fault. Only Bama would break the bank - with a football team masquerading as a University. I don't think anyone cares as much as them. Who knows? You can't trust anything when it's behind closed doors.

There are no set criteria.
They took the 4 "best" teams.
I guess if they set strict criteria before the season or design a method to rank teams with computers, then the 4 teams qualify rather than get chosen.

That didn't happen.

Hey they didn't want any BCS or any computers deciding the teams. This is what happens when there is a human element especially when the argument is pick the 4 best teams. It's only natural the committee are going to gravitate toward the most dominant team in recent history.
