Former NFL head coach Herm Edwards is about to bring his football enthusiasm to the desert.
Arizona State will introduce Edwards as its new coach at a Monday morning news conference. Edwards replaces Todd Graham, fired Nov. 26 after six seasons.
Edwards, 63, becomes the first African-American head football coach in school history. Since 2009, he has worked at ESPN as an NFL analyst. It's not yet clear when those television duties will end.

If I were an ASU alum I would be so pissed off. As someone who doesn't care though this should be a solid source of dumpster fire entertainment. I still think Lane at ASU is the best coach-school fit in CFB

I am, and I AM!

I will never not laugh at how this was their response to chip Kelly

Too much eye candy

Terrible. It’s not like ASU is an also ran... they can do MUCH better

63 year old who hasn’t coached in almost 10 years. I’d be furious if I was an ASU fan

I hope I'm wrong, but I think this will be an unmitigated disaster. Anderson may have hamstrung the program for 10-15 years with this hire, and sealed his fate in the near future.
I honestly don't see an upside to this hire, unless all Anderson wanted to do was to hire the first black coach at ASU, which he could've done with Sumlin.
Good Christ they better get the best available coordinators in the country to help him.
This hire makes Alleva look like a fricking genius.

Yeah I mean if you want to hire a minority coach then Sumlin was a much better option. Hell even Strong would be better than Herm frickin Edwards

That’s the worst hire in years. I’d take Schiano over him

I don't necessarily think this is as bad a hire as people think. Edwards is a nationally known name and that alone will open all kinds of recruiting doors for Arizona State. If he puts a good staff around himself, this could end up being a home run hire IMO

Firing Todd Graham after last season would've been understandable.
Firing Todd Graham after a 6-3 conference record and then hiring Herm Edwards is batshit crazy.

While I don't necessarily disagree with you, this hire still seems like a helluva reach.
ASU is not a total disaster like Illinois was when they hired Lovie Smith and needed a PR boost. And Herm's HC resume is much thinner. It just feels like a stunt that makes less sense than even the Gruden to Tennessee rumors.

This is gonna be a colassal failure but his pressers will be golden.
