I was watching The Big Interview last night with Michael Stipe and Mike Mills, and when Automatic for the People was brought up, Stipe spoke very negatively about a song, but would not mention it. I really have no idea which one it is. Anyway, what are more examples?
Oh, and good grief does Trump make them angry

I'll bet!
The only example that comes to mind is Steely Dan - Katy Lied. There was a mistake in mastering that compromised the sound quality -- and you know how anal Becker & Fagen were about their sound. So they hated that whole album but that's a little different from your example. They hated it for reasons that were beyond their control.
Lots of examples of people getting tired of songs over the years and ending up not liking them (Joe Walsh - Rocky Mountain Way for example) but that's not quite the same thing either.

I've read that Randy Newman despises "Short People" and not all that fond of "I Love LA".

Sturgill Simpson is not a big fan of "You can have the crown"

I've always heard Stipe HATES Shiny Happy People, though that's not on Automatic. I'd guess Man On the Moon off Automatic.

Lemmy was completely sick of Ace of Spades but said he kept playing it because he knew the fans wanted it.

Paul wrote it, but John Lennon hated 'When I'm Sixty-Four." Called it 'granny music.' In fact, I read somewhere that he hated a lot of the Beatles songs.

Cheap Trick hated The Flame...
President of Epic presented that one to them and apparently Neilsen yanked it out the tape deck and smashed it with his boot heel...

I remember Stipe and Buck doing a radio interview in the mid-80s, and the song Radio Free Europe being brought up. Both groaned like they were sick of the song, or didnt think much of it.
I've heard Simple Minds hated Don't You Forget About Me.
Yeah, they were outspoken against Reagan and Bush, too.

I loved Automatic! Always thought Out of Time was flimsy, and insubstantial. Was looking for them to rebound with something big after Out of Time, and boy did they deliver.
Still my favorite REM album.

Randy Meisner was one of "Take it to the Limit" writers and dreaded performing it because of the stunt vocals he had to pull off at the end.
Already amidst other friction with the band, it was a big factor that lead to a backstage fight with Frey that was pretty much the last straw, bringing about the Schmit era.

"the sidewinder sleeps tonite" is the song
i like it though
quote:
"I'm not so crazy about 'The Sidewinder Sleeps Tonite'," Buck reflected in 2001, "but overall I think it sounds great." Buck added in 2003, in regard to the song, "We included this song on Automatic in order to break the prevailing mood of the album. Given that lyrically the record dealt with mortality, the passage of time, suicide and family, we felt that a light spot was needed. In retrospect, the consensus among the band is that this might be a little too lightweight."
