That’s...not what a straw man is at all.
If the rumors were that Canada wanted one thing, orgeron wanted another, and they compromised then that means the guy who has zero offensive background doesn’t want to let his coordinator do what he does best.

Call me crazy, but I'd like for my team's head coach to have an offensive philosophy/identity in mind for his program and to hire a coordinator who can implement it and run it.
That's fine. But don't say you want a pro style offense, then go out and hire a OC that doesn't run a pro style offense, and recruit dual threat QB's, which is what just happened.
Pick your offensive philosophy, hire the right personnel, and recruit the right personnel and it'll work out just fine.

That's how Dave Schultz made it sound. But what I took from it was he wanted to have a fullback in the system. On short yardage plays having a single back with no one leading the way seems to be the problem O is having. I also feel the same way, Have someone leading the back. Could also be an option for a fullback drive or a fullback there to push the quarterback on quarterback sneaks. When fournette was here, his favorite player was the fullback.

Coach O knows more about football than 99% of the people posting here. That assumes the 1% were active in college level and above football.
A pro style offense doesn't mean much more than a QB under center, and not trying to run a Chip Kelley offense which will not work in the NFL.
Look at the number of players Miles put into the NFL. Even in his woeful offense, he was cranking out athletes, and this is the selling point for recruiting; getting them ready for the next level.

They either hate him because he knows nothing yet has input or they hate him because he knows nothing and has to rely on his coordinators. You can't have it both ways. You can't tear him down as a head coach when things go bad and then say it's all the coordinators when things go well.

Do you think Canada had complete, total control those last 7 games when everything was going so well? Do you think Aranda gets total control?

When an AD had to stick his nose into game day offense procedures, five games into a head coaches career, I see all kinds of red flags waving in the wind.
There’s not one top 20 coach in America who would’ve done that or who would’ve excepted an AD doing that.

I prefer for my team - LSU - to win championships more than to be a feeder organization for the NFL. I realize it's a good selling point for recruiting, but I think winning championships is better for recruiting. You win, and the best kids will want to come here.

LSU's offense under Canada had a lot of pre-snap shifts but when the ball was snapped, it was mostly pro-style power run play action that O can't seem to get out of his head from his USC days.
spread concepts are spread concepts and canada runs that. the pre snap motion to keep them honest and spread out and to determine man or zone is as important as pre snap shifts. the only dude i want runninga pro style here is a guy who is good at it and that is jimbo. unless we go get a NFL OC. i prefer spread concepts of some sort like spread option of kelley or power spreads like CUm and the gus bus. hell go take kendal briles from lane kiffin. pro style is exactly the style bama excels against. if you want that you need great Qb play.

As long as we find a pro style QB, I'm more than happy going back to a pro style offense. Obviously the former is extremely difficult to do in todays age, but we had one of the best offensive season ever running pure pro style in 2013 (and a ton of talent on that side of the ball).

Okay and? That's not a strawman in the slightest. A strawman would be if I created an argument that you never made then argued against that made up position.
quote:
They either hate him because he knows nothing yet has input or they hate him because he knows nothing and has to rely on his coordinators. You can't have it both ways.
Yes you can though. If he has to rely on his coordinators 100% he should not have the input he was rumored to have had in the Troy game.
quote:
You can't tear him down as a head coach when things go bad and then say it's all the coordinators when things go well.
Now this is the strawman you're talking about since I never made this argument. Of course he deserves credit. It's not like a phone book is our head coach and the coordinators run the show 100%.

I think aranda probably does. That guy is a genius. I'm sure O had input on the offense, but in a limited sense. I don't think he's anywhere near calling plays or anything remotely like that.
My issue is not gameday, it's off-season when we have to hire a new OC and orgeron is a chameleon because he doesn't have a specific offensive identity.

I’ve seen offenses from jimbo and guys like Pete Carroll run some explosive pro concepts. I think O wants to mimic Pete Carroll in style and offensive system.
