My daughter is 8, she loves minecraft and her and her sister (7) are slowly getting into console gaming so we got her an Xbox One on black friday. We bought 3 other things online and I was about to secure each bc the kids werent around on delivery.
The wife and kids walk home from work today (she teaches blocks away) and my 8 year old always runs up to the house first.
She tore into the box before wife realized it, luckily my birthday is in 2 weeks and we are going to play it off on that, but I own a switch and ps4 already, i have no interest in the xbox, and I'm going to hook it up into the kids living room and it will transition into theirs anyway.
But now wtf do I do about her big gift?
I'm thinking bikes. I'm so fkn bummed out about this.
BTW, I know there are ways to avoid this, but this is one CON of shopping online, to your house. I've done this for years but this time it caught up to me.
PSA

Have her arrested for opening mail that isn't addressed to her.

That was an amateur move. Have everything shipped to your office. Plus, you don't have packages sitting outside your house at the holidays when any random could drive through and steal them.

Do you not teach your kids not to open mail that doesn't belong to them?

Don’t get her anything else. She needs to learn her lesson about opening mail that isn’t hers.

Act like it was a mistake and that it was delivered to the wrong address then "send it back"

You seem to be overthinking this. Yes she saw, but she thinks it is yours. You don't think they will be excited when she realizes it is hers and not yours.

What? No.

Give her the XBox 1 like you planned.
If you're concerned about ruining the whole Santa thing, just say that Santa's sleigh isn't big enough for all the toys and that he has to mail some ahead of time, or some shite like that.

I did the same thing with a bike when I was 8.
Mom said "tough shite" and made it my main present anyway. I still enjoyed the bike, and she will still enjoy the console.

Put a belt to that arse for opening mail not addressed to her.

Then we lose the Santa magic which is surely almost gone anyway . I have two other kids I'd like to keep the magic going as long as I can

My kids bring in the mail all the time. They've never opened anything... you don't think it's strange that your kid just opens up your mail?
