Coach O proved he is a good coach

Next year he needs to prove he can coach us into playoffs. To be an elite coach.

No excuses next year. Props to O for getting the train back on the tracks, no doubt.

Another caveat is that O proved he can be a good coach with two elite coordinators and the majority of contributors from his predecessors recruiting classes.
Not only do we need to see him break the 8-10 win cycle of Les and actually get us to a BCS bowl at a minimum (preferably get us to an SEC title game or playoff) but we also need to see him prove he can maintain through multiple of his own recruiting classes and rotating coordinators. We’ll see

All he did was prove he can beat coaches who have been or are about to be fired.

The team could’ve easily given up and quit after the Troy loss. Props to O for getting them back on track and finishing the season 9-3

At least better than the five fired/interim coaches we beat!!

While pleasantly surprised at the turnaround, no coach outside of a very select group are said to have arrived. It's year by year...

I give O huge props for doing what was needed after the Troy loss to turn the team around, but it is very hard to take away much of anything from this season.
It was such a weird season.

CEO lost 2 games he was favored in and won one he was underdog in. CLM usually lost all game he was underdog in and won the ones he was favored in. So Les would have probably been 9-3 also by beating Troy and losing to Auburn.
Not much of a difference considering all the money changing hands

Snipit from another thread to keep in mind...
For comparison sake we will use the 2015 Miles “Hot Seat” season where he went 8-3 in the regular season with the cancellation of the McNeese State game (a highly probable win)and finished 9-3
This is a good barometer for the program status:
In 2017, O is 6-2 with 2 wins against a team with a winning SEC record. Counting TAMU because they were 4-3 when we played them (ended at 4-4).
In 2015 Miles was 5-3 in SEC games. 3 of the five had a winning records TAMU and MSU were both 4-4. Again LSU gave them a loss so they were 4-3 without the LSU game.
If you drop the 4-4 teams it is eerily similar as follows with wins over 7 win teams:
In 2015 LSU beat UF who won the east.
In 2017, LSU beat AU who won the west.
The main difference between the 2 seasons was the Strength of Schedule
In 2017, the SoS is 49.
Massey Rating of 21
2015, SoS was Number 2
Massey Rating of 6

What do you see in the players we have returning that makes you think this is even remotely possible against the brutal schedule we have? I see no playmakers on offense. It could be a tough year. Hope I am wrong and some stars emerge.

2018 opponents:
Miami (AT&T Stadium)
Auburn, Florida, Arkansas, and TAMU (Away)
Georgia, Alabama, Miss State, Ole Miss (Home)
2 early season In-State programs that will play us hard, despite the talent gap (Home)
Rice (Home)
If O can navigate through all THAT to the CFP, it would be astounding. Depending on how Miami and Georgia finish, our SOS could look damn strong next year. The table would certainly be set. Hoping for some unexpected great news on December 20th, and a dominating bowl win for our Seniors!

1-2 against ranked opponents
When is the last time we only played three ranked teams in a season?

After Troy and after the coach meeting with Joe A. I thought things were about to fall apart into a million pieces.
Turns out O knew what he was doing!

What has he proved?....nothing. LSU is sustained at best...no progression at all from the coach LSU just fired...but he is LSU's coach so I hope he can build a championship caliber program.

He's a good program manager and recruiter. That's why we need top coordinators to run offense and defense.

Let’s say O, Aranda, and Canada were all immediately looking for head coaching jobs. Even though 2 of them have never been head coaches who do you think is the last to be offered a job. Serious question.
