I have a "pre-Remington" Marlin .22 WMR lever action, and a "pre-Remington" (pre-Cerberus) DPMS AR10 that are two of the most accurate rifles I've ever owned.
But I've been extremely leery of anything made "post-acquisition" by firms owned by Remington/Freedom Group/Cerberus.
Are y'all saying that Marlin rimfires are still accurate & reliable ? If so, that's good news, and would make it one less brand for me to avoid (not that I buy very many rifles anyway).

My recommendation depends on how much you want to spend. I don't have a CZ, although I will one day (CZ's VERY high on my "bucket list.") I have bought 2 bolt action Savage 17's, mine in 17 Mach 2 (a really good squirrel hunting rifle ) and my son's in 17 HMR. The Savage comes w/ the Accu-Trigger. Yeah, the Savage magazines are cheap looking sheet metal and they do stick out, but they work. You can also buy "custom" double capacity mags online for the Savage. All 17's seem to be very accurate, benefitting from high quality factory ammo. If you don't want to spend much money, get the Savage. If you want a little more refined gun and don't mind spending a little extra, get the CZ. But, my son-in-law has a Marlin bolt action and really likes it. Plus, Henry also makes a really nice looking lever action 17 HMR as well. Let us know what you end up doing.

CZ all day. I have a 452 American with a tweaked trigger. I love it and haven’t let another person hold/shoot it that doesn’t feel the same.

I have never seen an inaccurate 17hmr. All the ammo is high quality and very accurate. Doesn't matter what name is on the rifle IMHO. Just find one with a trigger you like. The ammo will take care of the rest. I think you would be better served putting more money into the optic than the rifle with 17hmr.

I have always wanted a CZ so am going that route but only one I can find is the 455 and even it was tough to find.

Gunbroker is your friend there, they always have a bunch. Lots of times they have used rigs that are really nice.

I have a CZ 452 .22......and it's ACCURATE!!! I got it at the Cabelas used rack for $250.....
I shoot a Savage B Mag .17 WSM, and my nephew shoots the .17 HMR......they are both deadly accurate!!!!!

This guy does a pretty decent comparison to the Savage vs. CZ in .17 HMR.
As expected, the CZ wins.....but the accuracy part is a tie. And for me, that's ALL that matters.....

As opposed to adjustable trigger?
What is the poundage on the set trigger for the 453?
Regular pull is 3lbs, but the single set trigger, SST, can be moved forward for a pull of ~8ozs.
They are going for $800 on gun broker these days for a good one. I think it retailed at 450

What is your recommendation on ammo for the 453? I've found federal hv match and the hollow point work well.

No clue how the new ones are... but i have one of the original marlin 917vs 17hmr when they first came out. All i did was drop a rifle basix trigger in it. And it will shoot just as good as any $3000 competetion 22lr with match ammo. And i can guarantee you that. We have rimfire target shoots here where 17 and 22 shoot together and i win just as many or more rounds than guys with 2 and 3grand guns.

Admittedly I don't have a CZ, but the same general rules apply. There is frequently a lot of variability from gun to gun re: rimfire accuracy. ALL 17 HMR in the US (regardless of the headstamp or label on the box) are mad by a single manufacturer, CCI. Shoot whatever is most accurate and feeds reliably in your individual gun.

Either a CZ 455,or Savage model 193 I believe,it is a stainless model with fluted bull barrel and thumb hole stock.
These two rifles are neck and neck for accuracy, off the shelf.
On the CZ 455,you can buy 4 different barrels in different calibers,22WMR,22LR and .17 mach 2 I think.
Of course, I haven't tried 1 of the Savage A-17s yet,it might be great.
I also Have a CZ model 512 .22wmr semi-auto,it is almost as accurate as The model 452.
The CZ I actually have,is a model 452 LH,but I bought a 455 RH for my uncle. His son has a Savage model 193,and we all shoot all of them, and can't really tell much difference in accuracy at all.
Like somebody else said, the Savage Magazine set-up could be nicer.

I don't purchase anything at all with resale value in mind. Not even trucks. I just don't buy things to sell them. I buy things because it's what I want to have and keep.
