Will be used to shoot rabbits and maybe try to get some coyotes with it and general planking. Looking for one that is considerably accurate.

CZ 453 is the tits with its SST. Finding one is the issue. I overpaid for my .22 - but damn is it sweet.

Well it depends. They are usually within $100-$150 of each other for the better savages. Savage mags are total arse though.

This.

They are not uncommon on gunbroker. They aren't always available, but you won't have to wait long.

I love my marlin. It was less than $250 and kills the shite out of cotton tails and targets.

Marlin > everything else. You can get the gun and a damn good scope for less than $400. Can't beat it.

Some people just enjoy blowing money on a name brand.

I have seen 455s for around $400 regularly. Well worth the extra $100 imo.

I would consider spending $400 on a marlin combo "blowing" money because it's not what I want. Not to mention my CZ has gone up in value since I bought it, think you can come close to a $400 offer on your marlin? Different strokes for different folks.

What makes the 453 better than the 455?

It has a single set trigger, which I am a big fan of.

As opposed to adjustable trigger?

What is the poundage on the set trigger for the 453?

1) that Marlin delivers the same performance as higher end brands, for a much lower price.

2) it doesn't matter what I can get for a Marlin .17 because it's not for sale

Never knew folks had such strong feelings about rim fire bolt action rifles. I have never purchased ANY gun with resale value in mind. If it's not junk and performs like I want I'll be happy with it.

I like my Marlin, but the firing pin gave out on mine after ~100 rounds. Fixed now, but happened at an inconvenient time. Nothing fancy, but it works. Would spend the extra dough if buying another though.

You push it forward and it is just ounces. If you don't touch it, it's a normal trigger pull.

Regardless, I'd rather spend my money on something that still has value at the end of the day. And we aren't talking about world beating money for a CZ, they are still reasonably priced.

It's fine if you want to drop minimal money on a marlin, I'm sure they are fine shooters, and they have their place. But people who choose something else aren't "blowing money".
