My grandfather always said that anything north of Alexandria was yankee.

There's a pretty clear shift around Fredericksburg, VA.

Welcome to Lexington. We love basketball, bourbon and horses.

I'll say, if you live in an area that has Bojangles, you in the south.

Here is how to tell if you are in the south and/or southern.

Do you eat boiled peanuts? Yes = southern No = Yankee

Do you eat grits? Yes = southern No = Yankee

Do you put sugar in your grits? Yes = Damn Yankee GTFO

Maybe because......

You're dealing with a bunch of people that have never left the state of Louisiana.

Good question. That is puzzling.

BTW... I’ve traveled the south fairly extensively, and I swear that I’ve not seen as many battle flags flying as I did when visiting Virginia some years back. That state takes a lot of pride in it’s Southern identity, that’s for sure.

Springfield, MO and all parts south of there.

So, the Red River campaign, Port Hudson, the battle of Baton Rouge, and many other battles nearby were not fought in the South?

Throw in Tennessee too. Maaayyyybe Arkansas.

The Deep South is the South. Kentucky, North Carolina, Missouri, Virginia? Nah.

Truthfully, I think a good rule of thumb to go by is if you find grits on the menu, you’re in the South. If all you can find is hash browns for breakfast, you’re in enemy territory.

I've always referred to Tennessee as the "welcome mat" to the Deep South states.

The best region, and only truly “American” culture. Everyone else tries to be someone else.

Am I colorblind, or is SC more pink than GA through LA? Who honestly thinks this isn't the South?
