There is no way they will, it would run contrary to how they do everything. Just thought if they were going to make a “win now” move that was it fully understanding it was a one year rental

Machado
is a 1 year rental at a high price. He is 100000% going to test the free agent market. And he is 1 or 1a, when it comes to top talent, and young for being a UFA.
Same with harper, they are going to break the bank.

3:56pm: The Pirates will receive one additional “mid-range” prospect in return for the final season of McCutchen’s deal, tweets USA Today’s Bob Nightengale. Yahoo’s Jeff Passan tweets that outfield prospect Bryan Reynolds may be in the deal as well
Hopefully Reynolds is in it. If it’s just Crick and some mid level SF prospect yikes

Meh Indians are still in it imo

AL central is in rough shape especially if Minnesota doesn’t do anything significant. There should be 3 really bad teams in there next year.

I like the Twins, I feel they're young enough to compete.... I like Berrios stepping up with Santana proving last year wasn't a fluke. I don't think they have a chance to win the division or WS but that they will be in the Wild Card hunt again.
Posted on 1/15/18 at 4:14 pm to tduecen
I like their young talent but I thought they were pretty fortunate to win 85 games last year. Their rotation behind Santana and Berrios is a nightmare and they don’t exactly have a stacked bullpen
Posted on 1/15/18 at 4:19 pm to ShaneTheLegLechler
Bullpens as we've seen can improve overnight, just get a few hard throwing young kids and have them not afraid to fail
Posted on 1/15/18 at 4:20 pm to tduecen
Confirmed to be just Reynolds and Crick for Cutch.

USA Today’s Bob Nightengale tweets that Rivero will earn $2.5MM in 2018, $4MM in 2019, $5.25MM in 2020 and $7.25MM in 2021. The deal also comes with a $2MM signing bonus, and his contract contains a pair of $10MM options for the 2022 and 2023 seasons. The 2022 option comes with a $1MM buyout, and the 2023 option has a $500K buyout.

I'd at least have reasonable confidence the Twins will sign one of Darvish, Lynn or Cobb for the rotation. They almost have to do that.

Thats a nice move....if their moves hit this year or the next then they have an elite back end reliever for cheap. If they sell big time they should get a massive return if they sell him off

again you have no idea what you have.... Not sure why this one bothers you so much
Fine. in my OPINION the risk that the prospects will not be better than the major leaguer we gave up will not be as good as the major leaguer himself.
quote:
Because teams line up to give away young controlled MLB ready talent? The Pirates and other teams that do believe they are not ready to compete and that by adding prospects they have a brighter future.
You have no idea what we have. A few guys on the ML roster could have had career years and this could have lead toward playoff contention. HOw is wanting them to win a bad option?
Plus, we had the money to obtain a few free agents. According to forbes' figures we could have easily spent 50 million based on what they made the last two years.
quote:
Congrats, based on last year if he was the best pitcher they had they are in trouble. Tallison actually had a lower FIP than Cole and will be the ace this upcoming season.
So how are we better off WITHOUT him?
quote:
And who exactly did they get rid of? Pedro Alvarez? Neil Walker? JA Happ? AJ Burnett? Happ was the only one but he was 32 at the time... The fact that Cole hasn't pitched like a CY Young player and other players have had issues has been worse for the Pirates.
So why didn't they sign top notch free agents? Why didn't they trade for elite talent?

You will be rebuilding when they trade Harrison, Andrew, Marte, Polanco, Harrison, Nova, and Rivero
We in the 24 hours since you made that post, one of those guys is gone.
This looks to be yet another fire sale for the pirates. We're averaging one or two of those a decade.
I dont see these fire sales in the NFL.
That's why MLB is such a pathetic joke.

quote:Not sure why you keep quoting this, I highly doubt it is 100% accurate since they only go off of certain numbers.

quote:Well first off FA have to want to go to you, second most FA have proved to be worthless in reality. As far as trades, they've made trades. Maybe not the blockbuster you want but they've made deals.
So why didn't they sign top notch free agents? Why didn't they trade for elite talent?
quote:This is just fricking stupid.... MLB has much more parity than the NFL and has proven so over several years. I mean I look at what Cleveland did this past offseason as a firesale, they got rid of or traded almost everyone of value.
I dont see these fire sales in the NFL. That's why MLB is such a pathetic joke.

I think the best way Pittsburgh can show they are serious is to come trade for jacoby ellsbury that will excite the fans

Christian Yelich's relationship with the Miami Marlins is "irretrievably broken," and it would be in the best interests of both the outfielder and the organization if the Marlins trade him before the start of spring training, his agent told ESPN on Tuesday.

Who are realistic contenders for Yelich?
In response to earlier posts. I am confident Cleveland will still be a force in the AL Central. A healthy pitching rotation could insure that. But for them to be a league-wide contender, they need another bat.

Per Crasnick, the Blue Jays, Braves, Dodgers, Angels, Padres, D-backs and Phillies are “among” the teams that have reached out to the Marlins to gauge the asking price for Yelich in a trade, though there are assuredly more team that have expressed interest. Toronto GM Ross Atkins recently suggested that virtually every team in the league would have interest in a Yelich trade, and reports have suggested that more than 15 teams have at least kicked the tires on the former Gold Glove and Silver Slugger winner.
