BOSTON (CBS) — The new Sam Adams beer is so strong, it can’t be sold in twelve states.

Utopias, which the brewer describes on their site as an “extreme barrel-aged beer,” is 28 percent alcohol by volume–which is above the legal limit in several states, including New Hampshire and Vermont.

Click bait press release by the Boston Beer company.

They put this beer out either every year or every other year.

Yeah it's also $200 and isn't worth standing in line over for hours like people have to do in order to get it.

Those 12 states should count themselves lucky. Sam Adams is garbage.

Stupid laws, change the name from beer to liqueur and I sure its good to go. But great marketing for Sam Adams though

frick that. I picked up a 4 pack of Dogfish head 120 IPA once not knowing or bothering to look at the ABV. I didn't realize until I was on the 4th beer and completely smashed my mistake. The hangover was monumental.

This beer is not new. They’ve made Utopias for about 20 years in very limited batches.

There are a lot of great Barrel-Aged brews, but I have yet to find one worth more than $20 for a bottle.

1) The "beer" isn't new. They've been making this for quite a few years now.
2) It is closer to a spirit rather than a beer.
3) I actually won a raffle for this beer. However, i was sick and didn't show up for the raffle, so someone else got it.
4) Yes, that is a ridiculous price for a "beer".

This is the 10th release of Utopias, which was first released in 2002. Only 13,000 bottles of the 2017 vintage are being released this year.

Had some last week. Unimpressed. Prefer Sam's Oktoberfest to it, and Oktoberfest is not exactly great.

I've experienced the same recently with Techeticles IPA. It's "only" a 12% but after four I was sure feeling it. And the next day was not fun. But damn it's so good going down.
