An activist federal court ruled this week that the 1925 American Legion Memorial to World War I must be removed.
The 87 year old memorial has a cross and, according to the liberal court, that violates the US Constitution.
The 40-foot tall Maryland memorial became known as as the Peace Cross.

Why are atheists so upset about something they don't believe in?
Posted on 10/21/17 at 9:04 am to cajunangelle
Cool, so I can now lump atheists in with the anti-confederate statute folks who have no respect for history.

Why are they offended by a symbol they don't bellieve in?

Because deep down they dont know if they really believe what they profess. I guarantee you that if someone is actually an atheist, they dont give 2 shits about religious symbols. This is just a platform to continue destroying the moral compass of this country.

Bingo! This is the truth (which atheists don't/can't have) that one is "upset" over display of something that isn't in their belief structure.
If it's "not real" to an atheist, then it is purely decorative.

I don’t expect to change anyone’s mind since there is always an anti-atheist circle jerk here. If you are really concerned with the truth then I would like for you to imagine you as a christian living in a country with the same constitution and set of laws but filled with islamic or satanic iconography on public land being maintained with your tax dollars. You as a private citizen have every right to demonstrate your faith in any physical manifestation you deem appropriate... on private land. The government should not have islamic, christian, satanic, or any other religious symbology on public property demonstrating a bias towards any particular set of beliefs. Having a secular government is important to maintaining the right to practice your religion.

This is the problem. Everyone is offended by something. At what point do you stop. You can't please everyone.

Get out of here with that load of crap. Your words are hollow.
The land was donated.
Had cross on it.
Government doesn't have to keep it.
A cross is only a decoration to an atheist because it has no meaning.
Government can put amy decoration on any government land.
The government cannot start or legislate a state religion.
You're lame reasoning is lame.

My tax dollars help fund abortions every day.
What say do I really get in that?

I’m not personally offended, it’s more of a question of what is appropriate government policy. It shouldn’t be about pleasing anyone. This is about having a secular government and a society that doesn’t play favorites towards a particular religion. I don’t think any of you really want the government to start deciding what religious symbology is acceptable on public property.

I'm pretty sure I've seen more people on this board self-profess to atheism/agnosticism than I have christianity.

I personally don’t agree with tax funded abortions. We can only vote for the people who support our views.

You seem to be offended that I hold a view contrary to yours lol. I think someone purchasing the land and keeping the cross in tact would be a wonderful compromise.

...And this is the mark of someone wholly uneducated or willfully blind to the origins of the United States of America. The Bill of Rights protects freedom of religion, it does not protect freedom from religion. The expulsion of Christianity (or any other religion) from the the US Government was a judicial construct by the Warren Court in the 1960s. It is absolutely not contained anywhere within the Bill of Rights or the Constitution. In fact, to follow the Court's opinion, which is stare decisis at this point, requires an act of hypocrisy as the Supreme Court still opens the term with a prayer (so does the senate)!
I respect the fact that atheists are entitled to their opinion, but they are not entitled to change history.

I am offended at your feelings of being offended but glad to see you aren't as lame as you originally posted and agree with me. Disposing of the land isn't a compromise as you think. Compromise would be the atheists accept the cross as it is a decoration and not a religious statement because they don't believe religion is real.

This monument was built with private funds on private land. I assume it was donated to the State. They should not be allowed to deface it, at all. PERIOD.
Give it back to the original owners, or maintain it. That is all.

I mean, I don't walk by depictions of Buddha or Ganesh and get offended, regardless of whether they are on public land.

On the contrary, you seem to have the inability to comprehend. I never once stated anything about the origins or early interpretations of US law. Your red herring contributes nothing to this topic, but if you would like to debate historical US law and whether or not the country’s laws should progress or regress then make another thread.
