Article

quote:

Some members of LSU's Phi Delta Theta fraternity are expected to be issued arrest warrants and booked into jail today in connection to the death of freshman pledge Maxwell Gruver, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

But it remains unclear how many students will be booked and what the specific criminal violations will be.

The arrests are expected to be made by the LSU Police Department.

Looks like that investigation has wrapped up.

Update:

I think if I were a suspect in this and had money, I'd be taking a long vacation in a country that didn't extradite.

For the most part. Social activities are allowed again beginning today, I believe.

This should require a "no knock" warrant. Hopefully LSUPD can finally use those flash bang grenades and that sweet arse tank.

Being in Phi Delt doesn’t insinuate you have money. They’ve always been a garbage, bottom tier fraternity full of castoffs and misfits who didn’t get bids from other fraternities.

I wonder what penalty a hazing charge carries. Community service?

Edit: §1801. Hazing prohibited; penalties
Hazing in any form, or the use of any method of initiation into fraternal organizations in any educational institution supported wholly or in part by public funds, which is likely to cause bodily danger or physical punishment to any student or other person attending any such institution is prohibited.
Whoever violates the provisions of this Section shall be fined not less than ten dollars nor more than one hundred dollars, or imprisoned for not less than ten days nor more than thirty days, or both, and in addition, shall be expelled from the educational institution and not permitted to return during the current session or term in which the violation occurs.

Is "hazing" the official name of the offense?

Hypothetical:

If a guy dies from alcohol poisoning from drinking too much, can his friends that drank with him and encouraged him to do shot after shot all night, be arrested for negligent homicide?

I ask because, if this kid wasn't tied up and forced to drink against his will, its still his choice to not do the things they want him to do. Pledges quit fraternities all the time. Where is the personal accountability?

ETA:

This clearly doesn't apply to Penn St situation where he fell down the stairs and was injured and they knew it and did nothing to help.

I'm thinking it's more about the death and less about the hazing.
