And, no.
I think the only horror movies nominated in the past 20 years are The Sixth Sense and Black Swan.
I can't speak to It's quality yet, but a nomination for a hit horror movie is highly unlikely.

Not even close. If a horror movie gets any traction at the Oscars this year, it will be either Split or Get Out.

Only a fan boy would think it's that good.

The Exorcist was. IT smashed the horror record of The Exorcist. Haven't seen it yet, but I think YES

I'm curious as to whether the groundbreaking success of this movie is gonna attract A listers to play the 45 year old versions in the next one.

No.
Get Out will get the nod. Was ok but of course you know the drill now ......

I'm not trying to be a contrarian, but I saw IT today and I don't think it warranted all the glowing reviews it got. Sure, it was a good horror movie. But it went overboard on the sex jokes, most of which weren't even funny, and I didn't see any award-winning horror material.

Get Out was a movie that had hardly any backing. Was made for $4.5 million, and made over $175 mil domestically.
It has a 7.7 viewer rating on IMDB and a 87 audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.
It also has a 84 on metacritic and is at 99% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Maybe its just a good movie.

It was good. Not Oscar worthy though.
