Damn, hope nobody ruins my OP with an upvote.

All I'm saying is that IT has pretty much been the most talked about movie of the year (until Star Wars hits theaters). It has certainly been the most talked about movie on this board.

Only a small minority of people did not like IT.

Critics, for the most part, like IT.

Stephen King is a "liberal darling". That plays right into the "liberal Hollywood--OMG! OMG!" conspiracy theories.

The Academy can nominate up to TEN films for best picture. TEN.

Nowhere did I say or suggest that IT could actually win Best Picture. I just think there is a better than average chance it could be nominated.

Rarely does the most talked about film get a nom. At least in the age of summer blockbusters anyway. Even then they need some typical Oscar bait production attached to it to get a pity nom. (ie, Nolan and The Dark Knight)

No there isn't. It really seems like you don't follow the oscars every year, no offense.

Has zero influence with the Oscars

The Martian
American Sniper
Gravity
Inception
Avatar
LOTR
Chicago
Gladiator

Those are the movies that have finished in the top 10 box office for a year that were nominated for best picture since 2000.

There's a big difference in those types of movies and IT.

"IT" will not be nominated, even thought it really was a very good movie. Another horror movie that did well with critics and made a lot of money was Annabelle:Creation, and that was hands down "scarier" than IT.

I'm sure Get Out will get a token invite and while it is currently #4 on my Best Horror of 2017 list, at this point the pandering to this movie is really making me start to dislike it.

Probably not. Outside of Silence of the Lambs, which is more of a thriller anyway, when was the last time a horror movie got a Best Picture nom? It's a genre most disrespected than comedy.

IT wasn't particularly scary either
