No, not in today's climate. I don't think it's progressive enough for the Academy's taste or a movie made by one of its favorite sons.

I'm not trying to be a contrarian, but I saw IT today and I don't think it warranted all the glowing reviews it got. Sure, it was a good horror movie. But it went overboard on the sex jokes, most of which weren't even funny, and I didn't see any award-winning horror material.

you're correct on all counts. it was decent. had no tension or atmosphere and relied on predictable jump scares. the kids carried it

The Stranger Things kid, while a good actor, they just took it too far. He was just a shithead that I wanted to be killed by Pennywise. People in the theater were laughing at him, but I just thought he was an a-hole and obnoxious.

Pyscho didn't win shite.

This movie isn't winning anything.

Nominated: Best Director – Alfred Hitchcock, Best Supporting Actress – Janet Leigh, Best Cinematography, Black-and White, Best Art Direction-Set Decoration, Black-and-White

Won: none

The Horror genre claims they have one Best Picture Oscar - Silence of the Lambs. That's being generous to a thriller and frankly a murder mystery.

THe only other nominees were all Thrillers.

Rebecca, Gaslight, Spellbound, The Sixth Sense and Black Swan.

Horror films have never won BP at the Oscars. Dr. Lechter is a pyschopath and it's a murder mystery about Buffalo Bill...not some crazed supernatural killer Clown.

Horror movies also take awhile to digest. I mean Masterful Kubrick and his Shining were awarded for 3 Razzies.

If the Shining couldn't be nominated for BP, certainly not what is made now.

That was exactly my thought watching the movie. I really liked that kid and wished they emphasized him more. The Stranger Things kid is a great actor for his age, but the direction they gave him was nausiating.

Not even close. If a horror movie gets any traction at the Oscars this year, it will be either Split or Get Out.

It was decent......... but really?

I think he was speaking about the Oscars in general, not just Best Picture. Which James McAvoy is certainly a dark horse candidate for a Best Actor nom. He was excellent.

Exactly. He isnt a favorite by no means, but if the studio puts the money in to push him towards a nomination, it wouldnt be unwarranted.

The Exorcist was. IT smashed the horror record of The Exorcist. Haven't seen it yet, but I think YES

Box office has less than zero effect on if a movie is nominated for Best Picture.

I assumed he was talking about the movie in general. Really wouldn't fight a McAvoy nom. He is great.
