What kind of authority comes with that role? Anyone here ever served as one?

Hide e in the bathroom to avoid key votes because they don't want to piss of their constituents.
If your talking about council members in BR anyways.

Own bars and act like a douchebag.

Punch their ticket for copious amounts of graft and corruption.

All depends on the plan of Government for the community they represent.

There like state councilmen, just on a smaller scale.

In Alexandria they spend 90 percent of their time bitching about the white Mayor, then the other 10% worried about bringing in a Dollar General for economic development.
Or is that the Police Jury? Hell, it hard to keep straight.

I've considered running for city counsel (I live in a small town outside of Gainesville), and I looked into it...
12k a year.... it's a part-time gig, and you're required to attend 4 meetings a week, on average. I get that you can do that and a full-time gig at the same time, but doesn't seem worth it unless you have ulterior motives.

Gives council to the city

A city councilman represents a district within the city. They have to attend a monthly meeting, but they do have to deal with all the problems within their district and it is their responsibility to fix them.

I wish they could stop you from starting threads.

Supposed to be a panel that takes on public issues and tries to resolve them with aid of the mayor and other city officials. Unfortunately, we're just paying them to be an audience to liberal stupidity.

Basically they handle any problem that a constituent has regarding any city service. They are kind of like the middle man. They also set budget, taxes, and make law. They are the legislative branch of a city.
