The two freshmen Ingram and Charles are completely lost. They simply are not ready to play SEC football. Both at times are helping double team the Defensive end leaving the linebacker an open gap to the QB, and Syracuse did this all night long. Ingram really struggles picking up blitz's and gives up free shots on the QB, but is very good with blocking 1v1. When Charles came in the O-line as a whole played better because they picked up blitz's better, but Charles kept whiffing on his blocks.

The two tackles need to stop going in motion. Every time Weathersby goes to the left side he gets beat to the outside because he is just not quick enough to that side.

Summary: These freshmen are really killing the O-Line as a whole and until Ingram learn blitz's and Charles learns to block his man this team will really struggle. The entire teams performance week in and week out will directly result what these two freshmen do.

Yeah those guys shouldn't even be counted on right now, Maea Tuehema should be the starting RG with Campbell as the backup.

Transfers since the end of 2016

OL Chidi Okeke
OL Andy Dodd
OL Willie Allen
OL Maea Teuhema
OL Seth Stewart

Transfers after 2015

OL Jevonte Domond
OL George Brown

Some want to blame Grimes. I am not convinced. I’m sure people were in the ears of these guys lamenting the fiasco surrounding the firing of Miles and the hiring of O. Also with recruiting wiffs, I’m sure they’re getting an earful of “do you really want to get stuck in that mess at LSU” from recruiting coordinators.

You probably picked up on the bigger problem but if you watch the 'every pass' compilation our LT looked really bad on multiple plays. Hard to watch that.

I definitely agree about the motioning lineman. It needs to stop. Every time they motion a tackle there is a missed assignment.

Todd McClure explained that they're getting picked - the end is doing this deliberately because they're playing too far forward and aggressively in pass blocking. They need to ride back to the pocket line and block as a unit. This is common, in my opinion, for young guards who usually master run blocking assignments first. Pass blocking, depending on the play call is essentially a unit assignment. The tackle will often times have an individual assignment, but either the guard is blocking a lane with the tackle or the guard is blocking the middle with the center (and other guard) - all depending on the alignment and number of blitzers identified.

This was supposed to be the big benefit of having Clapp at C - he is supposed to be running the line calls. At this point, I'd rather try Cush out there at C with Clapp at guard until the young guards get the hang of pass protection.

Just my $0.02.

I agree with everything you said.

If we had better protection we would be in a much better situation as a team.

You.never.give.up.the.middle.

It's basically the golden rule of being an offensive lineman

Very insightful analysis. The line has been in a state of flux since fall camp opened with defections and injuries. Its always difficult to get true freshman to play consistently in the offensive line. Hopefully a couple more games will get them to see the game better and make the correct adjustments. This team could look vastly different in a few weeks if the line can develop into a more cohesive unit.

We don't have a SEC caliber LT to offset speed rush of DE's in this conference.

I'm all for moving Clapp back to LG and Brumfield over to RG with Cush at C, give that a look.
