13 strikeouts tonight against the Orioles.
Second 300 strikeout season since 2002 when Randy Johnson had 334 and Curt Schilling had 316.
First AL pitcher to 300 K's in a season since Pedro had 313 in 1999.
191 of the 300 strikeouts have been on the road. Most by any pitcher since 1913.
Kershaw in 2015 was the first since 2002 with 301 K's.

There is A reason for this... Back about 30 years ago... Starting pitchers went 7-8 innings on the reg... That makes this even more impressive...

But on the flip side, batters are striking out at an extremely high rate.

But the (allegedly) flatter seams reduce movement on breaking balls.

He throws 98 with a deadly breaking ball and a change.
He's a win when he's on.
He's one of the best 20 pitchers who have ever lived.

and used to be 4 man rotations
4 man rotation - 40/41 starts a year
5 man rotation - 32/33 starts a year
Maybe you can add one or two with the off days to start the year

You can't have a ball that promotes more HR's and strikeouts.

This is funny
Walter Johnson
Cy Young
Greg Maddux
Randy Johnson
Pedro Martinez
Roger Clemens
Sandy Koufax
Tom Seaver
Lefty Grove
Clayton Kershaw
Jim Palmer
Pete Alexander
Christy Mathewson
Babe Ruth (yes he was that good of a pitcher)
Chief Bender
Steve Carlton
Tom Glavine
Nolan Ryan
Pud Galvin
Warren Spahn
Phil Niekro (on list bc he won 318 games and was fantastic even though the majority of his career was well past his prime - pitched to 48 years old)
Kid Nichols
Early Wynn
Tim Keefe (this dude is way underrated- had a MONSTER prime)
I could go on and on. COULD Sale be on this list? Absolutely. Is he TODAY? Absolutely not.

To think the Nats almost got him. Scherzer, Sale, and Strasburg? Geez.

The game has changed so much over the years from z pitching standpoint... as it stands now there is something that will never happen again.... in 1971 the Orioles had FOUR 20 game winners ... let that sink in a bit.....
