Federal Judge rules Sessions can't withhold funds from sanctuary cities

Just now. LINK

A federal judge has ruled Attorney General Jeff Sessions cannot follow through with his threat to withhold public safety grant money to Chicago and other so-called sanctuary cities for refusing his order to impose tough immigration policies.
U.S. District Judge Harry Leinenweber on Friday granted Chicago’s request for a temporary “nationwide” injunction. That means the Justice Department can’t deny requests for the grant money until Chicago’s lawsuit against the agency is concluded. He wrote that Chicago has shown a “likelihood of success” in its arguments that Sessions overstepped his authority with the requirements.
Chicago refused to comply with the Justice Department’s demand that it allow immigration agents access to local jails and notify agents when someone in the United States illegally is about to be released from custody.

So this asshat thinks he can prevent the federal govt from enforcing the law?
Too bad scouts can't fire judges who make really stupid decisions
At this point the leftist judges are a clown show

Yeah
And a federal judge told Trump he couldn't have a travel ban
In fact, several of those idiots did
And, Its way past time for 10 year term limits on judicial appointments

Good.
It appears to be the right call.
Let Congress address the law which allows this grants. Either cut funding or modify/define conditions for receiving grants.
Let the Legislative branch do its job and so on.

Is this kinda like telling your dad "yeah, you're going to pay me my damn allowance?"

Will be over turned

Funny how it was ok for Obama to threaten withholding funds to states who refused any of his pet projects.
The hypocrisy is astounding. And immigration is actually the responsibility of the federal government. Remember when judges under Obama struck down Arizonas stricter immigration laws because states don't regulate immigration? Same applies here. Cities can't defy federal law, because immigration is not a power left to the states.

Clearly they can. Just like FegGov withheld funds until states made the drinking age 21.

probably right. OPtion to withhold should be a part of the grant guidelines or enabling legislation. Can't just make it up as you go along.

meaningless

All these left wing judges are going to get overturned at the supreme court anyway. Their rulings are essentially just virtue signaling.
Posted on 9/15/17 at 11:30 pm to HubbaBubba
So we have to fight our own federal judiciary to enforce the damn law.
This is what an imploding society looks like folks.

I thought this type of blackmail was ruled constitutional by the Supremes when the feds withheld highway money from Louisiana until it raised its drinking age to 21.
So ?
So ?

What the frick is wrong with judges?
Posted on 9/16/17 at 7:51 am to HubbaBubba
Really, without using withholding the federal government has very few ways to exert its authority. It would dramatically shift power to the states and to local jurisdictions. This ruling will never survive judicial review

these federal judges have got to stop playing politics from the bench
