It's always been said as a joke. I know we didn't care if you were greek or not unless you went out of your way to make a deal out of it
Maybe that's it. I went to a ton of frat parties as a guest and when we put on the Kirby Smith Bonfire (RIP) frat stars were crawling all over that place. It was a good time had by all and nobody died. Hell the only fights I remember in school were the ones between frat guys in Tiger Stadium. Maybe we all hung together for moral support because the football team sucked so bad

You might see some young actives by into this trying to fit in. When you got older you didn't give a damn. If you were cool, come drink a beer.

They could use this opportunity to "regroup" and change the course for the future; there is a shite ton of room for improvement and change of perspective. Why not make your Greek houses about having a positive output and take special interest in a certain cause?
They already do that it's called philanthropy. Most sororities are very strict these days I never once knew of anyone being hazed in our chapter and our national doesn't play that game. They didn't 20 years ago and they certainly don't now.

Sororities aren't the problem.

All those kids who payed for friends want their money back. Greek life has had a bad week. It's not good when you see a pledge get KO'd on national news.

im sure they would, but would they shut down the rugby club if there was a death due to hazing on the lacrosse club?
Western Kentucky University shut down their swim program a couple years ago because of hazing incidents. Hell yes, other school administrators crack down hard on this shite.

I wasn't in a frat at LSU in the early 90's but several friends were and I can't remember one instance of alcohol poisoning related death until Ben Wynn. The drinking age was 18 and it seemed like all the big parties people were drinking keg beer or garbage cans full of jungle juice. Don't know if it makes a difference just an observation that all this weird shite like butt chugging and hazing with everclear came after the drinking age moved to 21.
Makes sense. I was never involved with frat culture but when I was underage, every chance I got to have someone buy alcohol for me it'd always be the hardest stuff just so I could maximize my opportunity for obtaining alcohol. Inevitably that led to harder drinking.

I don't think it is acceptable but greeks weren't responsible for that...

That is no different than punishing all black people because one commits a crime

Never understood why the non-Greeks are so bitter. Envious perhaps? I don't know
Yeah, the death is bad. Terrible situation. But don't lump all Greeks into one. Too many misinformed folks on here

These situations are always interesting, you are correct that they will use this to advance their anti-Greek motives but they have to be careful because the majority of the big donors of the university are Greek affiliated. They hate Fraternities and Sororities but love the money their member's and more importantly member's families donate.

And I guess if a student died during a LSU football (like if that kid that got punched tailgating was killed) game they would suspend LSU football?

I think you overestimate how strongly most Greek alums feel, especially the ones who have been out a long time. Would a lot of people be pissed? Sure. Would it result in Hunter Ellsworth IV reneging on his company's $2 million pledge to the LSU Foundation? Not so sure.
ETA: the same year our chapter was kicked off campus more or less for good, one of our alums, a former chapter president, was named to the LSU Board of Supervisors. It apparently didn't give him any second thoughts, if he thought about it at all. Nor did his presence on the board give the university any second thoughts. Those guys, alums and administrators alike, are playing on a different level. Are there exceptions? Absolutely. I just dont know if there are enough to make a difference.

Eh. A very large percentage engage in stereotypical dangerous shite. Is what it is.
FKing about to shite shite down Negan style.......this is front page national news. He has what he needs to justify the castration of the Greek system.

What is this going to do for seats at games?

What about the Greek tickets for LSU football?
Sometimes I think TAF would be happier if students weren't allowed to come to the games. I think they covet those seats so they can make an extra couple of dollars.
