My dad went up there for three weeks on a contract job. In February.
He said that he was snowed in by a blizzard in white-out conditions for a full week. And the next month they found a car after the snow melted. The car had a body inside that was just starting to thaw.

There are lots of Indian folks there, and they don't seem very friendly from my limited experience.

Ive been up here for a week for work and its great! The scenery is great, the people are nice. The Walmart has most of the registers open.
Great hiking and wildlife everywhere. Seems reallly safe as far as crime goes. I think I might move up here if i can find a job.

Had an aunt and uncle like outside of Yankton, SD. They were in Nebraska.
They moved over to the Colorado side of the state when he quit farming.
I've been there and that's about all I can say about that.

Mitchell in early January. It was -4 degrees not counting the wind chill. Kind of depressing in winter. Pheasant everywhere. There was nothing to do in Mitchell.
ETA: They didn't speak very highly of the Indians there.

Awesome In the summer. Brutal in the winter.

Bunch of softies in this thread.
I have come to the conclusion that the weather up here keeps the population lower and that is a good thing for the northern states quality of life.
I like the Spanish moss and live oaks as much as anyone but the first snow fall here and the autumn colors have their place too.
At the same time it's human nature not to want to move North. I would never want to be in canada.

Custer State Park has some great camping, climbing, biking, fishing, and water sports.
This Xs 100. There is an abundance of wildlife.
Check out Wall Drugstore in Wall, SD. It's kind of hokie but it's a fun place to spend an hour or so and eat.

No, I am suggesting that there are several people on this site that will turn anything into a race issue .

Seriously - Wall, South Dakota
Google it - it's a funny story about how it got started and how it is what it is today.

I've been there. I was referencing the bumper stickers but I said hell instead of heck.

I lived there for three years. This time of year is great. Then winter starts. Nine hellish months of snow on the ground, and up to your windowsills on the house. Temps of up to 80 below at times, white out conditions. When it finally warms up to 45 in April you will put on shorts to celebrate only to have a blizzard come through the first of May.
Don't do it. The people are only nice because they know you are not from there. No one goes out of their home except for work for nine months out of the year. I lived in Rapid City, SD. We moved there for a job. In September of our third year, I told the hub I would divorce him he did not transfer back to BR
