We have a duck camp on northern border of SD. Love it up there. You can literally not worry about locking doors, leave your car running while you go into a store, you likely won't even see a cop in a majority of the state. Whole different world. Low humidity, so even the cold isn't as bad as you think. Beautiful country.

The MacDonalds in Rapid City was staffed by nothing but blondes.

I could build 3 houses with the lumber from billboards advertising Wall Drug.

Also noted another sign advertising a campground that boasted, "We have shade".

Not unkind or anything else that you allude to, it's really not nice there from October - May, but go ahead move there. If you want to do a service job and freeze your butt off it's heaven.
