I went up there to check on a project we had going. I wear contacts, and our safety guy told me and I quote "you might want to take those contacts out they will literally freeze to your eyeballs." That sums up winters there

Yes. In the winter of 1983. It was the coldest god forsaken place I have ever been.

You should leave before winter comes. You will die.

I suppose if I asked how bad the SD police are you'd be so jolly.

Summertime there is beautiful. See Custer State Park, Badlands, Black Hills, Corn Palace, Wall Drug Store, Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse monument, Wind Cave, Jewel Cave. Cross into eastern Wyoming and see Devil's Tower. Some crazy people climb that thing. Mitchell - Cabella's. The scenery is really amazing- the colors so vivid - the air so clear. Night skies are like nothing I've seen before - stars, Milky Way, sometimes aurora borealis if you're lucky. Be ready for early, long and brutal cold winters, though.

My girlfriend is from there and I've now been twice. Christmas was terrible. It got down to -20 with windchill. People let their dogs outside to shite and it stays frozen to large snowbanks and snow drifts. Apparently I'm the only person who doesn't know how to get wasted and bar hop on a thin sheet of ice covering the streets as well. Busted my arse about 3 times one night. Summer is awesome however. Custer State Park has some great camping, climbing, biking, fishing, and water sports.

Are you suggesting that people should not want to live where they feel safe?

I use to ride my bike through there every couple of years. Some of the most beautiful country you'll ever see.

I wonder what element is missing in South Dakota that would lead to low crime?

The western quarter of the State is gorgeous

Yeah. Went pheasant hunting in Redfield. Good times.

ETA: In regards to the weather, went there in November. There are not trees in Redfield and we got caught in a snow storm. Tried to drive in from the farm to town for dinner and made it about .1 of a mile before we turned back

It was cold the entire time.

No, I am suggesting that there are several people on this site that will turn anything into a race issue .

What part? I've driven through the majority of the state. Driving down highway 90 was 5 hours going towards a windows computer background.

The high speed limit and low traffic makes the drive from Sioux Falls to Rapid City more enjoyable.

A very beautiful state...in the summer.
