So you only pay for internet now and no content? I am trying to understand cord cutting.

This is where I am. Plus, as soon as they have killed the cord they will figure out how to kill password sharing then we are back to square one with shitty apps and streams and freaking old school ANTENAES!
This hasn't happened with cell phone family plans and I feel like cable is headed in the same direction, especially for younger single people. I'm still on my parents family plan and just pay my portion through their account.
Though he didn't understand why and didn't ask for it, I'd give my grandpa $100 a year for his cable password. I use my sister's Netflix and hulu while she uses my Amazon prime.

So there will be family plans for all these apps and each person in the family will pay a portion? That isn't what we have now.

Other content I buy: MLB.tv, NFL Game Pass, UFC.tv, Amazon Prime. All but UFC.tv are one time annual fees. UFC.tv is a monthly charge.
Broken down to a monthly charge, it's about $100 including internet. So while it's more than just a monthly internet fee, it's stuff that I'm actually interested in. I've essentially replaced the $90 cable bill with 40$ worth of stuff I'm interested in. (ETA: and that $40 gives me every MLB game, every NFL game, thousands of fights.)
$90/month for hundreds of channels I don't watch vs $40/month for an abundance of stuff that I love

I'm talking about the service sharing of cable through passwords. It mimics family plans in how people are using the services from one account nowadays.

I'm one. I use directv now (grandfathered in) for 35, netflix (I use my wife's apple account and buy discount itunes gift cards to pay for it) and a tivo because most of what we watch is Ota. Saves us around 100 a month

I honestly don't care if I end up paying about the same and have to get a little creative to stay away from these companies. They're sharks.
I hate dealing with them on the phone. I hate paying for channels I don't use. I hate the long-term contracts. I hate the hidden fees and random increases.
I feel like I am supporting a movement that is finally putting power back in the hands of consumers. I do miss the digital clock on my cable box, though. RIP.

You can count me in the 22 million. I cut the cord and got DirecTV Now and digital antennae. Then I cut off DirecTV now and got playstation Vue for the Redzone channel.
Supplement it with HBO Now, Hulu & Netflix. I did that with Cable too though. I'm saving almost $50 a month.
Haven't regretted it yet.

We share credentials with friends
We pay for Netflix, they give us Hulu
We pay for HBO within Prime Video, they give us DirectTV Now
We sign into ESPN using my parent's credentials
Pretty much covers all of the bases for us

since my cable provider is also my isp, and they have a fricking monopoly in my market, they will likely just start charging more for internet. consumers may get the better end of the deal at first, but all of these companies will continue to raise rates because everyone still has block packages.
if they want to keep customers around they better hurry up and figure out how to get us 4k quick. I'd still pay a higher premium for better picture quality if given the choice.

I cut mine a month ago, and it's been fricking glorious!

I have not figured out the cord cutting yet. I pay around $90 for my cable package. I have not seen a combination of apps that gives me all I watch for that price or cheaper especially when you consider price, quality and ease of use. I am not switching to antennae to app etc...

We are actually planning on cutting the cord next month.
Trying to figure out the best options to suit us.
We want to have AMC and SEC Network if possible. That's about all we are worried about directly.
Anybody have any recommendations?

Both DirecTV now and Playstation Vue offer both. I think both are in the $50 package.
***Neither offers CBS yet though so you would either have to get a digital antennae or get CBS All-Access for the SEC games. I think it's $5 a month.
I highly recommend looking thoroughly at the channel lineups and reading any disclaimers before deciding. There are some restrictions on ABC/NBC/FOX that are tied to the local affiliates.

Part of what happens when most people cut the cord is they start watching fewer things in general. After a while you realize how much shite you watched just because, how much time was wasted on things you wouldn't go out of your way to watch if it wasn't just there on a path of least resistance.
absolute truth

delayed it for a while, I kept reading the thread on the tech board over and over. I finally did it and don't regret a single thing.
Fire TV with PSVue, Netflix, and HBO added through Amazon. HD antenna for football and local news.
PS Vue has now added WWL and NBC local channels. It is over for cable tv.

You get both with Sling $20 a month.

I would love to cut the cable, but I have 5 TV's, how do I make that work?

Going over to someone's house to watch a game and then realizing they are a cord cutter:

But family phone plans cost more than single phone plans. So, like I said costs will go up.
