Why do we spend so much on coffins?

This has to be the dumbest thing on the planet. The person is dead, he doesn't need to be laid in a comfortable 10k dollar container. Put them in the dirt and let nature do its thing. You're not gonna dig them up to get a look at them again

My will is going to demand cremation and demand surviving family makes chocolate milk out of me

Massive racket.

Graveyards themselves are complete wastes of what is usually prime real estate.

I probably need to make it more clear in my will that I would prefer a hefty bag and left out for the trash pickup.

Is cremation the cheapest or do they charge coffin prices for the most modest receptacle?

Take a look at the cost of a funeral with a black owned company vs a company like Rabenhurst. It's about a third of the cost for the same service

We do it because the decision makers are typically upset/distraught when they meet with the funeral directors. The funeral directors then show you the expensive options to take advantage of said emotions. People don't tend to make very smart decisions when dealing with these situations.

my granddad was cremated, my dad donated hes body to a med school, I told my wife to just have me stuffed and put me in the front hall with my hand out and a smile on my face. You don't have to have a coffin.
