Same for medical school. We need to let just anyone be able to defend you in court or operate on your loved ones. Qualifications are definitely racist.

Tell me again, if Asian students did take the spots of the very small % of black/Latino/native students, would admissions still be "equal" even though they grossly outperform white students?
Sure
quote:
What historical edge woukd white students have over them that gives them an extra bump in admissions if they can't compete with Asians students (based off raw stats. I personally think there is more to a student than his or her raw stats. Goes for all students)
Nothing. Race should never be a factor. If you can pass, you can pass.

A black applicant with a 3.6 and 28 MCAT has a 86.6% chance of getting into medical school.
A hispanic applicant with the same stats has a 71% chance.
A white applicant with the same stats has a 43% chance.
An Asian applicant with the same stats has a 35% chance.

Real libertarians would say the market will
Solve it and more govt is bad.
But I forgot, any chance to play up racial stereotypes and castes supersedes principles when it comes to some conservatives politics.

Do you favor ridding the world of all licensing?
Or just those that blacks can't pass?

I agree. Industry can set standards.

That's rich coming from a progressive. You're all of a sudden all in on "libertarian" ideals while talking like a progressive.

True. I think testing in general is an overrated tool to measure a persons ability in the real world

Here's the crazy part: If you belong to a demographic group that has an overwhelmingly higher percentage of members in prison, and you want lower standards for lawyers?

Depends on the field. I would say there is a minimum of knowledge someone should know for several particular fields.
In general, occupational licensing is ridiculous. Professional standards probably should be set by industry.

It's a big component of the conversation but I question whether it should be the whole conversation.
That's all. Also, a workforce with a diverse skill set could be advantageous. Obviously we need book smart people in some segments and other intelligent people in others to complement each other.
Somehow this became a racist idea that intelligence can and should be measure in different ways.

LA Bar Exam was tough as balls a few years ago

It's a higher barrier if you are Asian or White.
The matriculation stats have been posted and discussed at length on the PT. Not everyone plays by the same rules.
This is why we will never achieve equality.

In general I don't see a lot of difference if any between a black dude with specific qualifications vs a white dude with equal qualifications. Diversity for the sake of diversity can be a hindrance. So can hiring less qualified people.

And you're already wanting to lower the bar.
I'm on board with various types of intelligence. However those don't necessarily cross over to every occupation.

Ask a career criminal about how "diversity" matters when seeking representation
People want a good attorney, they don't give a shite about skin color

Hillary Clinton failed hers the first time too.

I'm 99% sure he's either a Sociology or African American Studies major. He just learned new theories and hasn't had time to see how they work in the real world.

Hey, if you wanna try and sue me using your cousin that googled a couple statutes, go ahead. The problem is sooner rather than later they'll be whining about "discrimination" cause the fake lawyers will never win a case.
