Get to work Edwards.

The Seattle-based online retailer said Thursday it plans to open a second headquarters somewhere in North America that will house up to 50,000 employees and cost $5 billion to build and operate.

The company is soliciting bids for the project, dubbed Amazon’s “HQ2,” and said it would prioritize metropolitan areas with more than one million people.

“We expect HQ2 to be a full equal to our Seattle headquarters,” Amazon’s Chief Executive Jeff Bezos said in prepared remarks. “Amazon HQ2 will bring billions of dollars in upfront and ongoing investments, and tens of thousands of high-paying jobs. We’re excited to find a second home.”

Amazon estimates that its existing Seattle headquarters, which opened in 2010, has brought an additional $38 billion in investments to the local economy.

Existing senior leaders will get to choose whether they locate their teams in the Seattle headquarters, HQ2 or both, the company said.

A tech hub will land it outside of silicon valley.

I'd bet it ends up on the east coast.

Somewhere in Texas. Just like a lot of these other
companies moving their HQ from CA to TX.

A good guess would be Austin since that was the HQ of Whole Foods.

Ranking the states to get this would mirror ranking the states by education.

Louisiana would be last or 2nd to last

I would be embarrassed if he even thought about mentioning our state

Why not just come out and say "we're building our second headquarters in Austin"?

No income tax

The State gives out HUGE corporate tax incentives like candy

It's the HQ of their recent acquisition, Whole Foods
It's a tech hub where every other Silicon Valley company has, or is currently building, its second HQ

50,000 employees. Wow. Louisiana people don't have the work ethic to meet Amazon's standards.

It's going to a big Northeast city, Texas, or one of the mini-tech hubs like Charlotte, Pittsburgh, or Nashville.

Wherever they go, they won't be paying much in taxes. States are going to bend over backwards to lure Amazon.

IBM can't even fully staff the brand new downtown BR location. There's a zero percent chance this thing comes to Louisiana.

Might as well come to North Dallas like everyone else Amazon.

You even have a DC here.

All they have to do is transform the old Fruit of the Loom plant in jeanerette. It's perfect.

I'd bet it's one of the following:

Las Vegas
Denver
Austin
Nashville
Atlanta
Raleigh/Durham
Orlando
