Lmao! Well, in that case, I know the answer to this question:

Does Lafayette's sister city try to rebrand itself as Lafayette?
Is a sure fire NO!!
Not at all what I expectes you to say...lol! I'm from LC as well and never thought of Laffy as a sister city. More like the red-headed stepsister city.

Jefferson Davis is usually lumped in with the LC metro area and SWLA
It's high time we removed that parish and replaced it with something more sensitive.

Why would Lafayette want to be BR
A safe place to live with a good economy and plenty to do would suffice with most people

Well, specific to your statement, BR has a lot of stabling aspects to its economy that I'm sure Laf would love to have - state government and associated jobs/economy created due to this location (we all know government is neither going anywhere or getting smaller); petrochem industry and the stability that brings; the state's flagship university.

Every city likes jobs that don't move. I don't think the infrastructure, schools, and rampant crime that are all prevalent in BR is something Lafayette longs for.

as much as i hate BR, they have the better economy. however you won't catch me ever living there again.

i'm talking about being the #2 city in LA behind Nola

The reality is that Lake Charles has a ton going for it, in comparison to Lafayette - petrochem industry, port and ship channel, all of the water access, outdoor activities such as great hunting and fishing, gaming with its proximity to Texas. And looking at the past few years, it looks like Lake Charles is exploding (perhaps in spite of itself, but that's a different discussion) and Lafayette is struggling due to the price of oil. It will be interesting to watch how the two cities handle the next decade or so, as the landscape could be drastically different than it has been for the past 30-40 with these two...
this is all accurate, unfortunately. Lafayette is in a bad spot not being closer to the coast and having port access like Lake Charles. also being closer to Texas doesn't hurt.

I've lived in both as well
BR has a few higher end restaurants and a few better bars for people out of college
Lafayette is much safer, has much less problems in the way of traffic, and is overall a better place in terms of quality of life.

BR needs to get its act together and stop bleeding productive citizens out of the Parish. It's difficult to see its potential turnaround on the horizon, though.

White flight in a place like BR would be much quicker than in other places. There are a lot less reasons here to look for the good in spite of a racist administration presiding over a city with crumbling infrastructure and rampant crime.

I went to LSU BR. Loved baton rouge, then i moved away to texas for 4 years, then moved to lafayette and lived there for 6 years, got laid off and found a job in BR. I have to say BR isnt what it used to be. LSU BR is good. Outside of that its just ok. Much rather Laff.

Oh, I could definitely see that. But, I don't think anyone in Lafayette wants it to be like Baton Rouge.

yeah i didn't mean actually copy BR. i meant be a major city like BR is (Nola and BR are the only 2 "major" cities in LA. sorry Shreveport)
that's why they're trying to constantly brand themselves and their institutions as bigger than they are. they're doing the "envision where you want to be in 5 years and act that way today" visualization stuff. so ULL had to be UL and now Acadiana is "South Louisiana"
that's why i cracked up. style over substance. classic Lafayette

I always enjoy a good NIH post when it comes to Lafayette or ULL threads.
