After Cleveland's physical examination of Isaiah Thomas' injured hip raised concern about the timeline for his return this season, Cavaliers officials are planning to seek an additional trade asset before finalizing a deal to send four-time All-Star guard Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics, league sources said.

Without revisions to the original trade agreement, the Cavaliers could threaten to veto the trade, league sources said.

The Cavaliers' stance could trigger a standoff between Cleveland and Boston officials, forcing both organizations to weigh the consequences of letting the blockbuster trade implode.

Celtics aren't giving up another valuable asset. They either add a couple seconds or one of theirs first and it is accepted or they walk away.

Yeah people talk about how Boston wouldn't want this to fail so they have to pony up. What about Cleveland? At this point I can't imagine Irving playing for the Cavs on opening day, and if this fails then they have to find a buyer and it the deal won't be as good.

a lot on the line for both clubs... Cleveland could either get a shite ton of talent, along with a potential 1st pick of next year's draft, or could be looking to get to trade-raped on their next attempt to deal Kyrie (if the deal falls through), because there is NO WAY he's a Cav on opening day of the season....

the Celts could be looking at trying to walk back that trade, with Ainge looking like a sleaze ball, in efforts of getting back in good graces with other GMs for future deals, they could be giving up even MORE for Kyrie, or they could be looking at having Thomas, who i imagine could be a little shite if he wanted to, unhappy, along with Crowder, who's been nothing but loyal to the Celts...

interesting development in what we otherwise figured was a done deal...

Woj is saying the Cavs will ask Boston for Tatum or Jaylen Brown.

Inside the Celts Front Office:

If Thomas can't play it isn't a very good deal for Cleveland.

IMO Boston can't let this fall apart because they haven't turned any of the assets into a superstar. If it falls apart they have Thomas not playing and expiring. As much as everyone says the Kyrie situation is bad, the Thomas situation is worse.

Sounds like Thomas's value is absolutely nothing now. The Cavs can probably do better than Crowder and a pick.

Can't the NBA take him to like an arbitrator third doctor and see what he comes up with?

The Cavs got the price that they got for Kyrie because of Thomas' potential injury.

I'd be surprised if Boston increased the compensation.

You and others keep saying this. But it doesn't sound like the injury was accurately represented.

If this was just a random pick yes. However this pick is likely going to be top 5 in a stacked draft. No way in hell Cleveland finds as valuable an asset as the Brooklyn pick in another deal.

I want the Cavs to void this draft. lets assume that best case scenario, IT4 misses half of the season, the Cavs cant risk that. IT4 is a FA at the end of the year and could walk. Why would you give up Kyrie for a player to give you 40 games? I'd call Ainge's bluff on this. I'd go after another pick hard...or pull the plug. Boston stands to lose a TON. Lets be real, if this deal is voided and IT4 misses that much time, I actually believe Boston will struggle this year. Boston would essentially be relying on Hayward and rookie to lead the team. At the end of the day, Kyrie and Lebron on the same team, no matter how bad the relationship may be off the court, is still going to win games on the court! Cleveland still has all the leverage!

I don't think Cleveland has the leverage. This is and will probably be the best deal they get for Kyrie. Boston believe they shared all information on IT and Cleveland is using the hip to try and get the player it originally wanted in the deal.
