For those saying IT hip was priced in...No. the Cavs made this deal assuming IT would be part of a title run. That's goal number 1 still in LBJ last season there.

Boston has been pretty transparent about the whole thing. You act like Thomas' hip just came up 48 hours ago. If Cleveland didn't do research, that's on them.

Again, that's why Boston has leverage. You think Cleveland wants to take Kyrie back?

You do realize CLE docs were not allowed to examine IT until the trade happened? Boston can say whatever they like.

Boston was only transparent with what their doctors opinions were. That's completely irrelevant if the Cavs medical staff disagrees and thinks the injury requires an alternative healing plan that will take significant longer for recovery.

Neither side has clear leverage in this situation.

Clevelands ultimate goal is to win the title and hope that convinces Lebron to stay with IT and Love, Crowder, lottery pick and probably some more roster revamping.

If you think they would take this deal thinking IT is out anywhere from Feb until all season, you are crazy. They want to plan for future but they aren't throwing away Lebron this year.

Who said he's out all year? Who said he's even going to miss time? Who's to say Cleveland is milking this to get even more out of the deal. They are playing the ignorant and naive card here acting like Thomas had zero issues whatever when the trade was made. The hip has been a concern dating back to 2017 season...

Maybe I am confused but everything that I've read says he injured this hip against the Cavs in the ECF so I guess that technically dates back to last season but really it ended his season. Latest reports say Cavs think he needs surgery which I think puts him on the shelf for the season but I don't know that for sure.

He re-injured it against Cleveland in the ECF. The initial injury happened in March against Minnesota and he played through the pain.

The Boston Celtics today announced that Isaiah Thomas will miss the remainder of this year’s postseason following re-aggravation of a right femoral-acetabular impingement with labral tear during Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals against Cleveland. Thomas initially injured the hip during the third quarter of the Celtics’ March 15 game against Minnesota, forcing him to miss the next two regular season contests. The injury was further aggravated during Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals at Washington on May 12.

Washington in the playoffs. So Cavs have known about it since, what, May? It' almost September.

So then Cavs can void the trade and go back to square one.

Consider this: Cavs know they are taking a gamble...or else why would they want a pot sweetener? If they knew Thomas could be out for the year, just void the whole thing. Perhaps they have a big case of buyer's remorse now

Pretty sure that was a knee injury. He had a bone bruise or something

No one was reporting fears of IT4 missing the entire season.

Correct, doesn't change my point.

And I'm not saying the Cavs aren't milking it, just pointing out that no one was reporting this before, so yea, that does change things.

next year should be their top priority for one more run before LeBron inevitably bolts...and if IT truly might be out for the year, their best play would be to walk away because there's nothing - reasonably- that Boston can add to the deal that could put them closer to GS.

They almost killed 2 birds with one stone with this deal (get better next year, and asset for future). But now they might have to sacrifice one if those.

I think they should void this trade completely. The more this comes out, the more it smells. You can't give up Kyrie for somebody who might miss at least half the season and possibly he entire season. This is about trying to win while Lebron is still here. This trade doesn't do that. Void it and start completely over.

I'll take back IT and his busted hip for Bledsoe and that pick

ETA: Reminder that the Celtics could've just drafted Markelle Fultz

To be fair, they had a third party independent doc take a look and he said the same thing theirs did. I'm anxious to get this deal done
