Ellerbe, yes

Lewis wanted to play, we disagreed....as did the rest of the NFL.

The Eagles just gave up a 3rd + Jordan Matthews for Ronald Darby.

Matthews was pushed down to third or fourth on their depth chart and is in a contract year.

Darby is at least a legit number 2 outside corner who has 2 cheap years left.

Breaux had one good stretch during his rookie year, in which he got hurt, got hurt last year and only played a handful of games and was not good at all, and is hurt again this year.

I know we all want the Breaux we saw his rookie year but we may never get that. And if we do want to keep him next year we'd have to tag him with a 2nd round rfa tender or get nothing. Not that that tag is very expensive, but it's not nothing.

So if true it looks like they'd rather roll the dice with a cheap draft pick for 4 years over investing in Breaux any longer. This is the type of move that the Pats make yet when we do them everyone calls us stupid.

I didn't mean to say that we could get the same - I just meant that it's somewhere to start. Darby is undoubtedly more valuable than Breaux. But to say Breaux is only worth a conditional 6th or 7th rounder - doubt it.

And people think we are good at CB, even before we drafted M Latt

Whoever takes him is going to have to tag him on the second round tender next year and then extend him (or just extend him), and then there is the fact that he's never had a healthy year and only played at a high level his rookie year before the injuries (and leg injuries can sap away athleticism which is especially important for corners and receivers).

Yes we know how good he can be, but we don't know if he ever will be that good again. That's what other teams will be thinking and it will greatly diminish his trade value.

Maybe you can get a conditional pick that escalates to a 4th or 3rd based on playing time and pro bowl selection, but I wouldn't expect anything more than a 5th even with those conditions.

He's one of my favorite players/stories the last couple years so this would suck. Objectively I'd have to see what I'm getting back. If you're frustrated with injury how could you not say that about Williams? Or Swann? Lattimore is already dinged up and hasn't even seen the field yet.

We finally have some nice CB depth and were not even paying him big money. I don't really see the benefit here.

Now is the time to maximize value for Breaux, not next year going into the last RFA year when he's looking to negotiate long term dollars. If Saints are gun shy now about giving this guy long term value and commitment, we have young guys, it might be time to let him roll now, maybe add picks to this next year's draft we're already short on.

This doesn't make any sense. Breaux has no value and the Saints don't have any cornerbacks. I imagine they're looking for a LT but what exactly would you expect in exchange for Breaux that you don't already have on the roster?

Exactly. If we are frustrated with his injuries and know it's now or never time to trade him because we don't want to invest in him long term, then we should pull the trigger.

Why not Swann? Because he isn't going to get us anything back in trade and is actually healthy now.

Why not PJ? Because he had two completely unrelated injuries and again is healthy now.

Lattimore is already back at practice and it was his knee, not his hamstring.

So what's different about Breaux? He's not healthy now and this is 3 years running.

lets not forget the incident when he got hurt on special teams play and i think it was breaux's manager or someone had something to say about him playing on Special teams.

lets not also forget about saints going after butler... i said all along that was maybe a sign against Breaux not PJ.

Pats will pick him up after Saints cut him, trade Butler for multiple picks to another team and Breaux becomes All Pro

Dude broke his neck and made it to the league. Even if he wasn't on my team/from Louisiana I'd hope he's successful anywhere he goes.

It's almost like we have to be burned multiple times before they learn.

Character: After cleaning up the locker room and only going with high character/smart/work ethic guys, we change our m.o. and start chasing talent with guys like Galette, Browner, Fairley (obviously character wasn't the issue ironically).

Burned.

Then we start chasing guys with injury histories like Byrd, Spiller, Ellerbe, not to mention countless draft picks.

Burned again.

Just stick with the basic winning fricking formula!

It's not complicated.

High character, hard working, smart players. We need more Fujita, Strief, Greer type guys than athletic freaks who can't stay healthy, out of trouble or learn the playbook.

Solid and smart > stupid/injured

Is there a chance we go after Butler?

I wouldn't think so considering we already gave up our 2nd rounder and the Pats probably want too much
