So what do you think about Curley learning a lot and getting a second chance? I've been told we can't hold things that happened 10-12 years ago against certain coaches, so surely things from 25 years ago should be off limits.

To think that Curley was a more attractive hire when LSU first hired him than when they hired O.

Context, my man.

If we go 9-3, with lopsided losses to Bama, Auburn, and Florida to finish middle of the pack in the SEC, and then win a shitty bowl against a crappy team, then yes, that 10-3 season is definitely mediocre.

But if we go 10-2, with a close loss to Bama and Florida on the road, and then lose a close NY6 bowl to a very good team, then that 10-3 season was a good one.

Maybe some but not even close to the majority. Most people want LSU to be successful and what ever that takes. If O isn't that guy he will be given a short leash IMO. Not one person I talk to has the outlook you have mentioned and I live in cajun country.

They are happy that a La guy has the job and are positive that he can get it done but everyone I talk to says that if he can't he'll be give his chance or gone. I'll bet most on here feel that exact same way.

9 wins should be the baseline for LSU every year no matter who's the coach. Anything below that should be viewed as a failure and the heat should be turned up on the coach, unless there was a catastrophic injury to a starting QB.

Apologies I was busy and misunderstood the post. I hear this all the time about Les Miles. "9-3 is unacceptable for Orgeron" because it was for Les. I agree that it will be if we don't dominate in wins and look competive in a loss.

I still stand by that reason as to why rumblings was started for Les Miles. Had nothing to do with his record but the way in which he lost some game and even won some games.

It makes a huge difference when you are competive in a game but still lose as opposed to losing in embarrassing fashion or even winning by the skin of your teeth.

There were many many wins in which the opposition had the last drive but our defense barely held on. Yes you have games like this but not consistently. It was fairly consistent with Miles. Lots of games where the opposing teams were in it at the end which gave them momentum to keep fighting. The object is to make teams quit as early in the game as possible.

10-2 should be the standard no matter who the HC is.

9-3 with while showing an open offense, would set O and program up nicely moving forward.

Doubtful, but i think it's more because Alleva's fate is now tied to O, so he will try to hold on as long as he can, in order to keep himself employed. That said, I also believe a good portion of the fan base will give O more slack because he's from down the bayou.

Not any more. 8 wins or more sounds like a perfectly acceptable record to a large portion of the rant these days.

if you read the post you should be able to tell that I was referring to typical rant comments made in the CLM era, that's not a comment I ever made

wonder how many people would be okay with rehiring Curley Hallman as long as he said to the media in every interview that he's learned a lot since the early 90's?

It would depend:

Did Curley take over a P5 team that was pre-season #1 and wind up unranked the previous season? The first team to do so since the 1960's.

Did Curley take over a team that had gone 4-7 in its last 11 games?

Did Curley take over a team that was 3-2 on the season with the wins being against Hawaii, Utah St and Boston College and one of the losses being 62-41 to Arizona St?

Did Curley take over that team and go 5-2 with a win over the #4 team in the country and get the team back into the rankings and a bowl game?

Did Curley take over another P5 SEC team that had gone 4-5 in its last 9 games? Three of the losses were to Arkansas (31-14), Ole Miss (38-17) and Wisconsin. Those four amazing wins were against TX A&M (19-7) at LSU, TX Tech, Jacksonville State, and a thorough whooping at LSU of Mississippi State by 3 points.

Did Curley take over that team and without a true OC go 6-2, get the team to a national ranking and win a bowl game?

If Curley did those things I don't see why people would be against hiring him.

Sometimes, what a coach shows on the field amounts to a hell of a lot more that what he says in press conferences.

Close. The coach before took a team ranked #3 to unranked

They were 5-6 in the last 11 games.....

No. But that seems terribly specific

He took over a P5 sec Team that was actually 11-13 in its last 24 games..... With losses to Kentucky, Vandy, and Ole Miss

No, but once again, very specific

All in all, Curley was pretty fricking close to some of the things you mentioned

10-2 would certainly be an accomplishment.

I fully expect our defense to be solid although our DL still isn't what you'd like it to be.

Our OL just has to be a concern at this point until we see the product on the field.

I don't actually consider WR to be as big a deal as some are making it out to be.
