I don't give a frick what you or "most" (according to you) American families standards are. I do it because my kids will see enough trash in their lifetimes so no need to add a lot more. And so they also aren't tempted to climb aboard used tier 3 carnival rides maintained by carnies on loan from NASA.

Just an FYI.. You and your kids are more likely to be seriously harmed.. or worse.. riding in the vehicle on the way to the fair than they are to be in a serious accident at the fair.. Not to mention, throughout the United States, a lot of infrastructure is getting old and becoming less and less safe to drive on so you might want to limit your time drive around as well.

But he's not driving to the fair so he's good.

Pretty much sums up my feelings on them.

Carnival scare me but my building had a "summer carnival" day on the 6th floor patio. I went just for the funnel cake. Place was full just for the snacks. Clowns do scare me.

This is an absurd, funny, and depressing comment.

I hope he doesn't go through life thinking "we are not going to do that shite. I read once where there was an accident so I don't frick with that"

I'm just amused about his attitude of "trashy". Dude is in for a wake up call from life when he regrets wasting a lot of time worrying about silly things.

Sounds like a miserable childhood, but do you buddy

There's all sorts of fun places to go that don't involve traveling carnivals. But you do you.

Do all those places have 0% risk factors?

Well this dude is pushing 60 so I'd say I've been awake for quite some time. I've also spent my fair share of time at carnivals so I speak from experience. I saw the Doobie Brothers play at the BR State Fair when it was at the downtown airport which is now Independence Park. I'm not a shrinking violet.

They have less risk than the traveling carnivals, and less creepy people working them. The notion that you can't have a fun childhood without going to a traveling carnival is hilarious. The OT is full of hot takes today.

ETA: And you'll notice i didn't say anything about safety or risk in my first post.

I have never been to Blue Bayou, but have vivid memories of sketchy carnival rides.

Good times.

Yeah, attending a carnival a night or two a year isn't going to move the dial on whether or not you have a decent childhood.

That was exactly my point earlier in the thread. It's not like avoiding the traveling carnivals is a hard thing to do.

Do carnies even have insurance? I can't imagine how much the premium would be.

A bunch a drunk dope-head neardowells maintaining rides which can kill people? If I'm an insurance co I don't touch that shite with a ten foot pole.

The accident rate is extremely low. The insurance is probably way more reasonable than you'd think. Stats were posted in the first thread about this.

If you can't trust a tattoo-covered felon out on work release to properly maintain a piece of machinery for minimum wage then who can you trust?
