Maybe he is just wanting to apologize to you. I would hear him out, even if it means getting a P.O. Box for a while.

ut a word to the wise, considering your hesitation already, keep an arms length with him b/c maybe after he's out, he'll think he's going to be your roomie once again and that can't happen.

We are years removed from college and I have a family. No one but family is ever living in my house.

This guy was a close high school friend and we roomed together in college the first 2 years. We went our seperate wats because he smoked too much (currently the reason he is in jail). His brother recently reached out to me because the old friend wants to write/call me. I told his brother I'm moving soon so my address is changing (true). His brother then asked for my number. Is it fricked up if I ignore?

Depends what he's in jail for. If it's for something minor I'd be careful, but sure why not. If he did something pretty big, nope no need for that in my life.

You're a shitty friend unless you send him nudes of your wife.

Give him a PO box. Nothing where he can somehow find his way to you after.

If he starts to get clingy or asking for shite, just be honest with him up front.

In my experience, these types end up asking for money. But it's possible he just wants someone else to write to while in the pen.

I'd feel more guilty never giving him a chance than giving him that chance and him ending up asking for money and I have to tell him no.

What harm can this do? Hear the man out.

This man is a leech on society and has ruined his life. Now he wants to suck the lifeblood out of the OP.

If you feel there is no harm in contacting the druggy/criminal, then post your contact info and let that scumbag drain the life energy out of you instead of the OP.

Then you have to accept responsibilities for your choice to contact him.

You quit being friends with this guy because he smoked too much weed? Or because he was selling it while living with you? Is he locked up for possession and/or intent/distribution?

Don do it, calls from jail are expensive! He is going to ask you for money, guaranteed.

This is so ridiculous.

What if he is in AA and this is an apology from that step of the program?

What if he is teaching/mentoring other inmates and wants life advice to pass on to them?

There are lots of people in jail that aren't "bad" people.

Why not? Maybe he's learned his lesson about smoking and wants to reconnect with you since yall were close friends. Probably bored/lonely AF in jail too, so having an extra friend to write/call would probably be a morale boost. If you don't want him knowing your address, just have him mail letters to his brother and use his brother's return address when you write back.

Nope, unless you're looking for collect calls. Or maybe his criminal contacts on the outside?

He doesn't care if he goes to prison or if he brings you with him. His illegal risks could have landed you in prison too.

When somebody shows, and tells you who they are, believe them.

For now, he just wants a few bucks for commissary money.
