Ive never heard of Freshman and JV football games, only High School (9-12) and Jr. High (6-9, depending on the school).

Academics are more important.

This shouldn't be a "handle this load and academics" question.

He should handle academics and then focus on sports.

High school sports are about as important as pee wee sports.

Wait is this football?

No way would I let my kid play 3 football games a week. I'd tell the coach he's either starting for JV or starting for Freshman not both. Given the research, I'd be extremely concerned. I gave my earlier advice thinking it was baseball. 3 games a week is insane. Hell, starting and playing meaningful snaps two games a week is insane.

this is a weird arse thread.... it almost seems like you are semi-trying to brag that your son is a half-arse athlete. But you do an even better job of showing you're a dumb arse parent.

Let the kid do normal practice like all the other kids and play on a single team. No reason for him to be dressing out and chilling on the sideline for 3 games a week. That sounda as retarded as OweO. If he can't find time to do homework and make the grades, he was fubar'd from the jump.

Baseball...sigh

Anyway, my son has been doing basketball this way since he was a freshman.

They are required to report to class after school on game days to finish homework etc, with teachers available to them if needed.

No one plays games right after school. There's always time between the end of the school day and the time they need to get ready to play or leave to play.

Did you ever sit down and set priorities.

Right now your ego is really big bragging about how athletic your kid is.

One collision or car accident can end his athletic career, then where is he academically?

Why are you sending your kid to school?

So, after 2 years of pee-wee ball and 2 years of JR High ball my kid is finally entering HS.

Am I the only one who's thinking the sport might not be football? If it is football, this seems a bit much. Why does he need to play freshman if he's starting JV and dressing for varsity? As many others keep saying, 3 football games a week seems a bit much.

If it's another sport like basketball or baseball, 3 games a week is nothing and this isn't an issue.

High School is easy...if he's not dumb he will be fine.

This is dumb though. At my school if you were a freshman who was really good then you started for JV and dressed out with Varsity. Didn't practice with or play with the freshman team at all.

Would it be "extra duty"? He's not practicing anymore than usual, right? It's really just a couple hours more per week.

But why the frick is he starting both Freshman and JV. That's idiotic. Tell the coach he should be playing and practicing with JV and, if you want him to dress for Varsity, he can do that. I just wouldn't have him frick with the freshman team at all

I would imagine they will let the season get started and see how things go. If he is truly a starter on JV, freshman ball will get dropped.

He would either be practicing those days or playing games. The time invested isn't really that different. He should be fine.
