What's the best rod and reel you've ever bought
Posted on 7/25/17 at 3:04 am to danb5056
All of my rods are ducketts. Best reel is between my Concept A's and Curado.

Curados are hard to beat and I like American rodsmith rods

I currently fish with 3 Shimano Antares, one on a Carrot Stix, one on a Duce, and one on a cheaper Skeet Reese rod. The reels are normally $600 a piece, I bought them for $100 each. That's the only reason I own such a nice reel. Before those my 201E7 Curado was my favorite.

I use curados and all star rods. Don't know if it's the "best" but it definitely does the trick for me.

Wow... That's like catching a 10 pounder.... What a deal!

I haven't bought the expensive stuff yet. I have Ambassadeurs, Kast King, Ugly Stick, Bass Pro, Berkley, All Star, etc....

They aren't paired, and they aren't the most expensive I've ever bought. But my best reel has to be my Lew's BB1. Best rod is a Denali Lithium 7' MH.

I have 2 Diawa zillion SVs right now, you'll be hard pressed to find a finer reel

My 15 year old calcutta/all star rig has certainly been the most durable I've ever bought.

My favorite is my Revo inshore on a falcon coastal.

I have a Revo Rocket on a 6'8" Med/Fast Shimano Crucial rod and it is an absolute dream to fish with. Throwing a yellow magic on that setup is probably my favorite way to fish.
The reel is sooooo smooth and the rod has the right amount of sensitivity and backbone.

Love all my Shimano bait casters, I've got old curados and the most current I series curado, but I'd say my favorite is my Curado 100D, wish I had 10 of these reels.
I have that paired with a Falcon Lowrider 20, weightless worm rod and it's an amazing set up. Super light, excellent action for weightless fishin, which is my favorite.

i have a couple revo premieres on kistler heliums. 500 dollar combos but I got them half price. Only reason i would pay that much. Most I would pay for a reel or rod is about 150. But i always wait for deals. When a company comes out with a new model they dump the current model.
abu just did it with the revos. I bought several STX's for 79 a piece. The premieres were 114. It lasting about 2 hours though. veritas are only 69 dollars right now because the new line will be out in september.

6'8" Med/Fast
Big fan of that length/power/action. My next purchase will be a 6'8 medium micro guide rod from either St. Croix or Duckett to be paired with a curado 70. I can't decide which I like better. With either rod the entire combo will weigh less than some reels. Should be a surgeon with light texas rigs and shakey heads.
Rod manufacturers have made some really nice advances in blanks and micro guides over the last few years. Duckett is making great rods at really low prices. Reel tolerances are getting tighter and more technique specific. I picked a bad time to get serious about bass fishing, I have about $2K worth of gear picked out that I've convinced myself I need just to harass a few fish.

Accurate Boss Fury 600 on a Sabre 670H blank that was wrapped by my uncle. Awesome tuna setup.

Concept A on a duckett rod

My go to has been my Curado 70 on a Cajun Custom Savannah. The small reel has plenty of power, and the rod is super light weight and tough. The whole set up is under 10oz. You can cast it all day.
I found a good deal on eBay on the Curado 70s and will be switching most of my 200s to the 70 size. They are fun to cast.

Lew's Tournament Pro
Cabela's XML casting rod
I have met no greater combo than this.

My revo on a carrot stick, or curado on my glass Dobyn's crainkbait rod would be my fanciest.
As someone said above, I have an old calcutta on a 6.5' MH all star that has been around since the 90's and still works great.
