I'll simply say this: If you see this movie and wonder why you should care about the characters, that's on you.

Outstanding. I really think this is the best thing Nolan has done.

A lot of his movies try too hard at times with dialogue. This one is limited dialogue, and so much of this is told visually and with the score doing heavy lifting. Pay the extra money and see this in 70mm IMAX.

ETA: The pacing is by far the most impressive thing, though. I kept waiting for it to drop after the opening and it just is relentless. The score blends so well.

I'm kind of mixed on it. Maybe I need to sleep on it to fully comprehend.

It was a great experience (70mm IMAX) especially the sound and score. The lack of character development was a non issue. You care about them. Tom Hardy was a boss.

I thought the non linear storyline was choppy though not hard to follow. I know special fx were limited but seemed obvious in certain scenes (3 planes in formation, people jumping from boats).

Technically and visually, one of the most impressive movies I've ever seen. The cinematography is incredible.

The complaints about the movie lacking character development miss the mark, IMO. I don't think it's unintentional that the only characters that get any sort of development are Mark Rylance and his son. Having 30-45 minutes of exposition would have detracted from the movie. I love how they throw you right in from the first scene.

I wish I could see it in 70mm IMAX.

Going to the 7:00 show at the AMC IMAX. I prefer the Cinnemark and their XD screen, but for some ungodly reason they are showing a movie called Girls Trip on the XD. What the frick is that bullshite?

70mm IMAX for me tonight. Can't wait. I'm a sucker for Nolan(IMO He is the goat) but typically hate wars movies so I'm interested to see how I feel

I saw it last night. Probably the best Nolan film to date.

My one criticism is : why did the pilot land on the beach in enemy territory? He couldve landed on the beach next to British troops. Also, what was the deal with the people in the hull of that boat that were being shot at?

I didn't understand that. Where were they? How did they get in the boat and who was shooting at them?

I was writhing in agony in my seat as the sailors in the water were burning alive. That was so tough to watch.
Hans zimmer is a lock to win best score. That was amazing and set the tone and pace of the movie .

Very good.

Loved it. I did get confused at one point. What happened towards the end when the boat did something with German plane and they were talking about the Captain of the boats knowledfe of aircraft?

Good movie. I liked it a lot. Beautiful to watch, great score as always, tightly paced.

Didn't blow me away, though. I disagree with people calling it Nolan's masterpiece or his best movie yet. JMO

I honestly didn't think it was very good. I think I was expecting something different though.

visuallt stunning, but I was surprised at how little dialogue there was. Which did make me feel like I was in the middle of fighting for survival, no talking, just trying to stay alive.

Overall thought it was meh. But definitely worth watching. Truly beautiful cinematography.

Reading through the other posts, scale definitely had something to do with it. Didn't feel like there was that many people there.

I saw Dunkirk tonight and couldn't have more positive things to say about it. While not as good as SPR and while it's non-linearity and unforgivingly tense score in my view make the movie a bit more about its creators than about the story itself, the sheer level of discomfort I felt throughout had me realizing halfway through that Nolan had really captured the essence of the moment. It took guts making a war movie about a retreat, as the throes of battle would have been so much easier to dramatize, but Nolan was successful in making a retreat as bleak and then as inspiring as he possibly could have. For this particular subject matter, I'm not sure there's anything more I could have asked for. As a WW2 nerd, I went in with ungodly expectations and have to say Dunkirk mostly met them.

Saw this in a regular cinema last night, and found it amazing.

Where are you folks seeing this in film IMAX? There are no Louisiana options for that.* Closest venue appears to be Birmingham.

*What Elmwood is offering is 70mm but not 70mm IMAX. Still superb and worth the drive I have no doubt but it is distinct.

Just saw it in Plano at a 70mm theater.

I wanted so bad to come back here and tell y'all you were overrating it

It was badass. That score was unreal. My wife told me she needs a drink when it ended. Lol

My only complaint was those brits were hard to understand. Lol

How can it be a spoiler when all one has to do is search Dunkirk to know that they were rescued?
