What I hate is what we call "After the Coupon/Comp" tippers

For example this past Saturday I had a table and it was the person's birthday, so on their birthday we mail them a coupon for $20 off their next visit. Anyway they bought $23.31 worth of food and with the $20 off their bill was $3.31.

frickers left me $0.66. That's not how it works. Unfortunately most people tip on the after-discount amount instead of before. $0.66 is 20% of $3.31 but they did it wrong.

That's fine with me. Maybe the service industry should stop suggesting a tip of 20% of the price of the dinner and find a more appropriate way to reward staff for a job well done.

Paying you a larger tip because I ordered a steak and the other table ordered a house salad is absurd.

Wait, they do this study and then they don't have a race category?

I'm SHOCKED, SHOCKED I tell you!

Every study now-a-days has a racial component. Except, apparently tipping.

Why would "they" tip anyway. They had a horrible experience at your restaurant, as indicated by them finishing their meal before asking to speak to a manger about how terrible it was.

Wait. First off, didn't you graduate from TCU? Did you make some terrible decisions like myself to end up in the service industry after college?

It's called being responsible and wanting to get my student debt paid off by New Years Day 2020 instead of 2032 if I simply paid the minimum each month

Combine my two incomes I am making well over 100k

You've been waiting tables for 12 years and still work at an establishment where multiple people can eat for $23.31?

I work part time at a place that rhymes with Tee Ray's. They bought a pizza for lunch and split it. Lunch crowd there is different from the dinner crowd. I work 3 nights a week and average about $350-$400 total for those 3 nights.

Pretty much every complaint to the manager I get is from "them"

From what I have seen it's black men who have gotten a lot better at tipping. Black women still suck at it.

I know ahead of time if they will be good or bad tippers. The bad ones will make 3 dozen modifications to their order and complain if one of those 36 modifications was done wrong. If all 36 modifications were done right they make up something that was wrong(after scarfing down the whole meal of course) then demand to get a comp. Usually these are the same people who come in 3 minutes before close.

I had a black table tip me $0 and wrote "fries were cold" on the tip line. Great, would have been nice to know that.

Toppings should be outlawed and put add it under gratiuty automatically. Of course people would still.complain but people would get paid better.

I'm with you that those people are just shitty people. But by that same token, do you think the tip should be calculated pre-tax or post tax?

Also, I always question the accuracy of phone surveys.
This survey

The scientific telephone poll of 1,002 adults conducted June 22-25, 2017, found that overall, 4 out of 5 Americans say they always give a restaurant tip

Weird. I'm a female, Southern, Democrat and I was pretty well raised that you respect good service and reward it with a good tip.

And you get to pick up hot sloots and cougars and show off all those gains.

(Kind of just ribbing you a little, but that does actually happen alot. At least it did when I served.)

Our company policy states:

"Tipping exceeding 20% of the total bill for meals...will not be reimbursed".

quote:

The sweet spot for all Americans is a tip of between 16% and 20%

I'm in the sweet spot. I only go over 20% by rounding up.

I am not saying that because I do it, the study is wrong... But I use cash and I am probably more generous because of it. My tipping rule is.. Double the tax, increase tip if service is good.

So let's say tax is $8.00.. That would be a $16.00 tip, so I will just give a tip of $20.

frick this motto.

If you can afford to eat at a place, you can afford to eat at a place.

A tip is a bonus. Someone bringing me a beer and a cheeseburger is worth about $2-$3 dollars max.
