I don't want him to start by any means, but I would not be too unhappy if I saw him take the field at some point during the fall.

Ahh ok, got ya.. I did take it as you wanting him to take over as starter. I'm with you on wanting him to get at least some PT, though..

I think with Chark and Gage as our main targets, we will be fine[/quote]

We will probably lose to somebody we shouldn't
Posted on 7/7/17 at 10:32 am to geauxcoco
lol I can assure you 3-5 losses there's your expectations.

About the same as last year. 3-4 losses.
Defense takes a step back after losing just about every tackle from the 2016 D.
Offense will be ok but I don't expect to light up the scoreboard due to poor pass blocking, mediocre qb, new WRs.
Schedule is brutal. 5 SEC road games. Season opener away from TS against an experienced team (17 upperclassmen starters).

I cant understand the Etling hate. Here's a guy that becomes the starter in game 3 during the season and plays pretty well. Its funny how we all give coach O a break for going 6-2, because he took over after game 4 but hate on this young man.
He was inconsistent last year, but most QB's in their first year in the SEC are.
He kept us in every game and did not make the big mistake or turn it over on downs during the 2 minute drill against both Auburn on the road and Florida. If LSu wins either, probably wouldve went to the Sugar Bowl.
Had us in the end zone on a 2 minute drill at Auburn and on the 1 yard line against Fla. Played well in the bowl game.
Is he a top 5 QB in the SEC? Maybe, maybe not, but he's better than most. And thats a nice change for LSU at the position.

Etling did a good job protecting the ball and moving the chains last season...except vs Bama. I don't think we should rule him out just yet

We respect to these guys, this will be our worse top 2 WR's in 10 years, at least.

Just take a look at all the players drafted last year.
That should give you a good indication of what you might expect.

The bar should be set for at least a ten win regular season but I'm expecting something like 9-3 or possibly even 8-4.

I agree. I'm not particularly optimistic but neither am I much pessimistic.
Those camps that are completely one or the other would be the way they are no matter who we had hired, fired, recruited, scheduled played or didn't play.
Although, I am hoping for the best, as I see no benefit to complaining and bitching about everything.

I cannot see any tangible reason to think we can be better than 9-3. I will consider 9-3 a great success especially if we can win our bowl game and end up with 10 wins.
Three factors need to come together for us to win more than 9 games in the regular season: (1) O line needs to perform better than their talent level; (2) D line also needs to overachieve; (3) Danny Etling needs to GREATLY over-perform his talent level.
As always, much will depend on how proficient our opponents are this year.

I think it all comes down to what Canada is able to do with the offense. If they can pick up the schemes we will be successful. His style of offense will hide any deficiencies at QB. The OL will no longer be forced to block plays that are already read by the defense. Diversity, spacing, motion and adaptation will all favor the offense IF they are able to execute. Spring practice was not very promising, but that should be expected with a new OC and scheme. We have 5 games before Florida to implement the offense.
Defense will likely still be very good, but not as dominant as last year. Adams, Beckwith and White moving on hurts. But, we have good players filling those spots.
My other concern is special teams. Who knows if they will be decent or not?

great post goon.
sums it up. I think OL is more crucial than QB. etling won't be a superstar, but he could be effective under Canada if the line allows time.
i'm hopeful that the game plan will make the line better, since the defense won' know what play we're going to run every single down.

I'm thinking 9-3 in Coach Binder's first year would be a success.
