I have a Craftsman lawn tractor. I was having problems getting it to start. I got a new battery and it worked for 2-3 times then wouldn't start. I turned the key and it made a clicking sound. I can jump start it and it will start. Any ideas what the problem is? Solenoid? Starter?

Sounds like the battery went dead because of a parasite electrical discharge. Did you leave the key in the 'on' position after killing the engine? Did you leave the lights on? If it will start after you jump it off and cut the grass, you have an electrical problem if it won't start the next day.

Find out if your lawn mower has an alternator, if it does its probably out.

ETA: whatever electrical system it has to recharge the battery is malfunctioning. Find out what that is and get it fixed.

Load test the battery at any parts store- it's probably okay, though

Check all your connections making sure the wires at the connectors not broken/corroded in the insulation and the connections are clean and tight.

Remove the plug, with 1 battery crank and if the flywheel spins, check your valve clearances especially if it's a Briggs engine

Similar case with john deer zero turn. I just went and purchased a $50 charger and just keep the battery charged. Sunshine equipment couldn't figure out the problem two years ago and said I just needed a new battery. Wrong.

Had a similar problem. Couldn't figure it out. Sent for repair and it was a $2 fuse!
