This is going to be a sensitive topic but one I have been wishing to ask for a while.

There are successful, professional african Americans that post on this board who are firmly on the left when it comes to racial issues. TigerDev, TigerinDC09, among others. These are people who, IIRC, have been able to achieve a lot. DC09 is a computer engineer who probably makes comfortable income. TigerDev was (he's banned now) in the sciences and also earned a nice income and has a comfortable family life if his post history is accurate.

My question is this: how do you, on the one hand, believe that the system is out to get people that look like you, that you guys have no chance in this country without drastic changes, yet on the other hand, literally exist as a refutation of the former belief? If you guys were able to do the right things and work hard for what you wanted to achieve in this world, why can't others you have a soft spot for? Why didn't the "system" chew you up as well?

Or do you view yourselves as one of the lucky ones?

I am genuinely curious. If you were able to become firmly middle/upper middle class professionals with happy families and safe living, why can't others who come from similar backgrounds?

Don't underestimate the cultural Marxism of those on the left, even if they are personally successful.

Just because they are on the left doesn't mean they support BLM brah.

Weak people who are trying to find an identity are the ones who are all-in for BLM.

Dude...

Van Jones described election night as a "Whitelash" against the previous black president...forgetting that this country voted that previous black president in twice.

The left have been hammering victimization into the brains of black people for 50+ years. Many can't escape it. Some obviously can.

Just know the real answer isn't logical.

I have a black friend/work associate who held four different jobs from being let go during the Obama administration for lack of business. Prior to that, he was a successful national account manager with a highly respected technology firm.

But because he got to meet Odummy at a black event many years ago, even though he struggled economically during his eight years as president, and is now in a lower paying job than he was in during the Bush years, he still thinks Obama set the moon.

Well, hell. I thought this was a thread about the Bureau of Land Management. I've long advocated that it be eliminated.

i have a question do you believe that blacks are not racially profiled? Do you believe if any of the recent shootings the victims would have been white then the shootings wouldn't have happened?

I firmly believe we need to address the way that black people are treated by the police. I also believe that being white would have stopped 2/3rds of the police shootings that were brought to national attention last year.

I have a soft spot for members of the black community who get terrorized every single day. People who mind their own business and try to raise their families in the proper way. I guess people might call them uncle Toms, I call them Americans.

I can't see why this Black Lives Matter thing gets white racists in such a tizzy. No one ever said White lives don't matter.

You've obviously never seen FB posts of black people calling for white people to die or be killed.

The argument is that despite many black people being successful in life, our social system places more obstacles in front of blacks than other races. No one is arguing that it's impossible for black people to be successful; it's just harder.

I don't support BLM because their cause de jour is always shite, their hyperbole is over the top, and their methods are extreme. That said, I don't disagree with some of their fundamental objections to American culture - especially the War on Drugs. It's just a shame that they turned their backs on the only politican who seriously engaged with them about ending it.

OK ... I'll bite.

Terrorized? How so?

(And, yes ... I realize that this may be a regional thing.)

So, if you don't care for BLM then you are a racist?

quote:

No one ever said White lives don't matter.

Then why can't people say All Lives Matter? When people have done so they were called to task and called racists....similar to the way you called people who don't like BLM.

You can, but it was mantra was started as a way to squash the BLM movement. The BLM movement wasn't an attempt to elevate black lives over white, Hispanic, or any other race. It was started to raise awareness to some challenges some blacks in this country face, particularly when it comes to law enforcement, and affect change in that.

Unfortunately, this country isn't ready to reconcile with its racist past, nor its inherent racism still present today. So they were labeled a terrorist organization, and discounted.

I don't disagree with your first paragraph but this:

quote:

Unfortunately, this country isn't ready to reconcile with its racist past, nor its inherent racism still present today.

isn't the complete problem or answer. I get aggravated when anyone says "we need a real discussion on race in this country." Because no one, black people especially, want a real discussion on race. All sides simply want to point at the other.
