Got an HBO Now account for the sole purpose of getting into this show. What am I in for?

Is season 1 good or does it take a while to get going?

Watch the first 10 minutes of the first episode and report back. Seriously. It only take 10 minutes and you will be hooked. Doesn't let down after that.

Yes. Don't come back into this thread. Leave now. Too many massive spoilers. Get out of here now.

Don't come back when you want to talk about the show until you are done! Some clown will gleefully spoil the show for you.

You don't even have to wait past episode 1 for it to kick into gear. Now it'll probably take awhile to remember everyone's name and who they are. They throw a lot at you and introduce a lot of different people, and it really doesn't let up until you are at least half way through the season. But using the closed captioning helps a lot with trying to keep up with everyone's name, title, and what house they are from. Also rewatching the first few episodes helps as well.

But it is definitely well worth the investment. How much do you already know about what happens in it? Have you already been spoiled with some of the plot points? If you haven't been spoiled yet, then I'd stay the hell out of this thread because someone will probably spoil something for you.

When I first started watching it last year, I had to go to the GOT wiki page that does a recap after every show to get down the names and places.

Yes, but don't start the books unless you want to become exceptionally pissed off with a man who has to lube all of his doors with butter.

Hate these threads.

Yes, it's terrible. No one watches. Move along.

Not a book reader, just a fan of the show-

yes, it's that good. First couple seasons are incredible. There are some storylines that I tired of, but that didn't happen until maybe season 4 or 5 for me, and there are still brilliant episodes (some of the very best) afterwards.

The first 3 seasons are extremely in-depth with the amount of stories building, and the various character arcs.

By all means, avoid spoilers. Don't do it, even if you think you're just getting a taste. Don't read a damn thing online anymore about the show.

Game of Thrones is the best thing I've ever watched. I did read the books first, so maybe that helped, but plenty of non-book readers would tell you the same thing.

In absence of a completely botched ending (which seems unlikely) GoT is on track to become the best TV series to date. There is really no other show that has been produced with such great expense with such an outstanding cast and such a complex/ambitious plot encompassing so many story arcs pulled together across so many diverse and wide ranging geographical locations. There's really nothing else in the same leagues as GoT in terms of an epic TV series.
